BUT, my cats will not eat anything from Lidl. they are fussy little cows. (i'm talking about the catfood, of course, not the pizza, which they try and steal from my plate when my back is turned - no joke!)0

Lidl 16 year old whisky £9.99 not bad, strawberry swiss roll crap (only saying this as it wont sell out) :-)
Aldi Computers, GPS ,Southern Belle, cannot fault try it if you dont like it ,dont buy it again.
Bike gear is also good :-) Perhaps not the actual bike, but then again I have never bought one. But then again I ride a£1900 full susser. Have a look at http://www.bristolmountainbikeclub.com/ and count the of Aldi tops.
Have saved a mint over the years at both stores.
I wish I could buy shares,
DaveWaddle you do eh?0 -

You only pay the one pound to use the trolly. You get it back when you have finished.
Lidl is great for
Yoghurt
Fruit & Veg - very fresh in our shop - lasts all week
Pasta
Olive Oil
All meat
Coleslaw to die for
Fruit Juices
Chocs of all description
Frozen foods - try their frozen german sausage!!
All home cleaning prods - cheaper than anywhere else and just as good
Booze of all types - wine & beer all very competitive, as well as spirits
Now we have a Lidl in town the Tesco & Sainsbury shops don't get a look in for us and we eat better and cheaper since shopping there.
Now an Aldi is opening opposite Lidl so we will have the best of both worlds.
Aldi is good for:
Feta - made from goat and sheep milk
Parmesan - better than Lidl
Yoghurt with cereals
All types of offers on home goods
Be aware with both - if you miss the offer they very rarely come back again.
It's a shame that more people don't shop at these stores - they give the main ones a good run for their (or our) money. Shop at Tesco et al and you are just lining the pockets of the bosses and shareholders and doing yourself no favours at all. It's just a snob thing that keeps people from the doors of these stores.
By the way I DO NOT work in any of these store I just think they are great and offer us an excellent opportunity to save money and eat very well0 -
You get your £1 back when you push in your trolley on return. It should pop out but I find myself fighting with these so generally aavoid them and try and grab a box (yes I confess to tipping out the contents and piling them up somewhere near).
The queues at Lidl's can be horrendous - no express till, so I prefer Aldi's, except they don't accept credit cards and I do like to collect my air miles!0 -

I'll second this.
They are a "deluxe" version and are more expensive than almost everywhere else, including Sainsburys.
However they are not made from "reconstituted" meat or "reformed" like most of the others.

What to buy Aldi
Apple chutney with real ale, small jar but we like it!!!
Chicken Kievs.
Ice cream Mini chocolate lolly things. Plain Milk and white choc. Like a mini Magnum delicious!!!!
Country classic Steak and mushroom pie very meaty in chiller cabinets.
Even bought their PC a little while.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but if you are not happy with any of these shops stuff take it back for a full refund.
I have been told that a lot of the cereals are just rebadged branded stuff.
Locally we have a plant that bottles wine for most of the well known stores, turns up in huge tankers then is just put in whatever bottle they want!!!!
There goes my 1st message!!!!!0 -
Eldest son, then aged 15, actually asked me to buy a bike from Aldi AND his mates agreed it was a really good buy.0

To be honest, there is very little I have found I don't like in Aldi (the only thing that springs to mind is ginger wine!) - they are a great stores! I find the veg brilliant in my local store; their fresh and tinned soups are wonderful; meat all good....the list goes on! There's some great stuff in the freezers too - and all so cheap!!
The specials on Thursdays are very good value, and if you do have any problems, they take things back without any hassle.
They are particularly good at labelling food-content for vegetarian/lactose intolerant and coeliacs....and for me it's a brilliant way of not paying through the nose for gluten-free stuff, like you have to in general supermarkets!
Happy Shopping! :T0 -
Shop at LIDL for:
Parmesan - v, v tasty and so cheap
English Cheddar - great for cooking
Salami - the pre sliced and the whole ones too
Whole chorizo - excellent!
Roast ham - v. tasty and so reasonable
Yummi marrofat peas!
Part baked ciabatta - great standby
Pesto - great on pasta but try spreading it on toast with grated parmesan
Tinned car sweets - great flavours especially ACE flavour (after their ACE drink)
Red Tarragona wine - had none left last time I was in and no wonder
Jams - not keen on the low sugar but the others are great
Crisps - try the handcooked ones - they are so much crunchier than other brands
W2 washing products - do a great job and smell great
Bagged wild rocket - tastes fab and costs a fraction of other supermarkets.
Christmas biscuits, stollen, sweeties etc....
Basically anything that German manufacturers do well, you'll find is a good buy at LIDL.
You'll aslo find main brands there when there's a promo on - the other week Pataks sauces were in at a far cheaper price than some competitors.
Go on fill your boots!
I have been a convert for several years now and use LIDL to supplement my posher shopping.0
