Counsellors, therapists, psychologists...you name it, I've seen them.lol.

Usually counselling is very informal. The first session is usually just getting to know you better. They also might ask what you want to gain out of the counselling. It might take a little while to build up a relationship with your counsellor but that's completely normal. :)
Is it an NHS counsellor? Or one with an organization e.g AICH?
I'm not sure how old you are but I used to see an AICH counsellor which was very informal. :)

    xx

Thanks Lady M It is a NHS counseller,as to what i want to gain from counselling i don't really know, the secret of happiness maybe. As to my age lol more than double yours but sometimes older does not mean wiser.

Thanks Shazza,i know what you mean about becoming isolated, not sure about having my beliefs challanged but we shall see.Do not know why i was referred maybe because my depression keeps coming back but think the latest bout of horrific mood swings may be down to the menopause.
I shouldnt worry too much about having beliefs challenged because if it is done properly you wont really notice and the idea is not to be confrontational but get you to rethink your beliefs that are not working for you. Not that I am a great fan of NLP but it can get used effectively in these situations because it seems like only conversation. Situations can be seen in more than one way (NLP calls these frames) and so they try to get you to change your frame of view. The obvious one is is a glass half full or half empty. What I dont like about counselling is that quite often it takes god knows how many sessions to do what can often be done in a one hour session. I am working on helping people with sessions over the phone.
At the end of the day the counsellor is there to help and please dont take this the wrong way but because of the nature of depression there are many people who see counsellors who dont deep down want to be cured until what the depression is protecting them from is sorted out. Sometimes that is easy to see and sometimes the client cant or wont open up so the counsellor ends up shooting in the dark.
Try and be as open as possible with the counsellor and you should get some benefit out of it.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

Todays joke is the last for a few days as I am off to spain so I will make it a good clean one.

A blind party is out on a coach trip when one of the party taps the driver on the shoulder and says "driver are we coming up to a village green?"
    the driver replies "yes"
"And is there a pub by the green called the Dog and duck?
Yes said the driver how did you know?
Ive been here before I lost my sight said the man. Can we stop and have a game of football.
The driver laughed and asked how they could play when the couldnt see the ball.
The man said "we have a special ball with a bell in it so we know where it is."
"OK then" said the driver while thinking, great I can have a pint
So he sets up the goals and leaves the blind party playing football and nips in the pub. As he gets near the bottom of his pint an irate man comes in the pub shouting "whose in charge of these blind idiots out here"
The driver replies " I suppose I am as Im their driver"
"Well come and sort them out they are kicking the crap out of my morris dancers"
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: love the jokes ab, they make a good start to the morning, and i shall miss them, have a good trip

morning to all the newbies, sorry not good at remembering names, post as little or as much as you feel comfortable with, we are a friendly bunch in here

morning all the regulars, hope everyone is ok this morning. only a week today til the lads go back to school :j :j :j :j :j :j

they have been fairly good this hol, and its been nice doing activities with them, but its also been very tireing and stressful, and am looking forward to having some free time.

i have a key worker, who is going to accompany me to the different activities that i have chosen, til i gain the confidence to go alone, at the same time, i will be discharged from the clinic where i have also been doing activities, shall miss the woodwork lol, but will still be attending clinic for the talking treatments. have one week left of the anxiety management group which has been very very useful, hoping to do a confidence building course too, as i have become so isolated in caring for the lads.

    hugs all

    Morning Everyone,
Hope your all well and good this cloudy morning. I wish the sun was out, this summer has gone so quick cant believe it will be winter soon.I will try not to think of it as it brings me down.

Geminilady good luck with counsillor and hope it all goes well. It can be quite stressful for some when its your first few visits to see someone, for me it has been anyway. I have seen a few in the past and only one i sort of could manage to speak with. Im still on waiting list to see another one so in a way looking forward to it as I know I need to someone. Sometimes it helps to be able to talk to someone who just sits there and listens. Sometimes I dont like it, depends on my horrible moods to be honest. All the best sweety.
Better go and hang the washing, I have soooo much ironing its shocking and havent got a clue how Im going to get through it all lol.
    Have a good day everyone.xx
