I dont know if you want it for yourself or children but even so it doesno harm for us adults to use baby stuff. The 'Little Me' range at Boots is organic and does notcontain sodium laurel sulphate. They had some recently reduced to just 99p per bottle in my boots clearance section. Its usually about £3.99 a bottle. They aslo do bath creams, body lotions etc.

Scooper - sorry I can't recommend anything. Perhaps Green People's products are free from this substance? Suggest a google search, or perhaps a look in Sainsbury's though I think they have stopped stocking it. Edit: here is a link for Green People - must have been feeling mean when I first answered your query... apologies!

They do mail order, and seems that they are SLS free though the information they offer is a bit scant.

I think that some people in the Old Style board make their own soaps and so on, maybe it'd be worth asking on there for some advice. It might be a bit of a faff but you would know exactly what substances you are putting on your skin/hair if you decided to try this.

I would be grateful if you could post a link to a website which outlines the problems associated with sodium laurel sulphate as I am interested in finding out a bit more about it (though not keen on spending that much time searching for it).

    Ta muchly.

Sodium laurel sulphate can also be found in other items that need to foam or lather, such as toothpaste, bath/shower gels, shaving products and cleaners like washing up liquid.

An e-mail hoax went around years ago claiming it causes cancer. A number of anti-propoganda sites have since sprung up.

Personally I'm not convinced that it is harmful and continue to use products with it in.

OP - have you tried organic ranges or natural beauty shops like Lush?
Here I go again on my own....

i have recently heard about that email and read it and peoples concerns about sls, i just feel even though i think as yet there is no proof i personally dont want to take any chances especially on my childrens skin.
i know for us there are the liz earle products which are totaaly free of any chemicals and are natural ingredients, and some of them you can use on babys skin, but i am looking for products a little bit cheaper to be honest.
when you read the back of a bottle of shampoo or any product there are lists of things on there you havent got a clue about and that does concern me.
to research every thing that is in them would take a long time.
i will have a look in boots and take a look at the website reccomended.
Is there anyone else who is concerened about this?

There is a new range of baby products that don't contain these chemicals, but anyone could use them and they're reasonably priced - called Halo and Horns, and linked to the new channel 4 programme 'Make me a Millionaire'. Sainsburys are definitely stocking them and I think some of the other big supermarkets are too. My baby's eczema is definitely better after using them.

You can try Lush's shampoo specifically developed for kids, called "Assisi". Smells lovely, but unfortunately not available online yet. They also have a whole range of solid shampoos which last forever and are very gentle, but do contain sodium lauryl sulfate (different from laureth...).

little me at boots is all sls free [never buy it at full price though!!]
also halos and horns at sainsburys - as both already mentioned
also seen waitrose own baby products now sls free too, not too expensive either.

or try a local organic shop - they will have loads, but usually pricier. eg. as nature intended, or bushwacker sell quite a lot of sls free stuff.

catalogues/websites such as spirit of nature do loads too

scooper, i have just about tried all the natural hair products going. most are expensive but if your lucky get down to your local £ land and get yourslf some organic hair juice shampoo could'nt believe it when i saw it cos superdrug used to sell it for £3.99 (which is still a good price for organic shampoo) it doesn't contain sls of course. which reminds me, must pick some up! if you have a local health food shop try urtekrin shampoo £3.25 again a good price for an all natural shampoo. ;)
