But I don't get why you would thow away coupons 'you know you won't get the money back on'? How do you know they are duplicates? Surely you are not throwing them away just because they are printed in black & white?
I don't copy Couponnet coupons BTW, never would - but am interested to know why a cash office would make the decision that they are copies? Are you sure you are not throwing away normal mocs that you could redeem, as some of my couponing friends use b&w printouts?
I am a serious couponer but rarely hold up the queue with my 40 or 50 coupons. I warn the person about to go behind me that I pay in coupons which will take 5 minutes...and nine times out of ten off they go (their choice if they stay behind me).
And surely you never take more in coupons than in cash at a Tesco Extra. That really makes me wonder, sorry, perhaps you could elaborate with more detail as I cannot believe this. It seems totally unbelieveable, forgive me if I wrong, but IMHO lots of customers pay in cash and very few in mocs (unless you are counting Tesco Reward Vouchers in your sums which isn't the same thing of course).
We can spot a fradulant couponnet one a mile off - we even have a template which we match the size of the coupon up against - and often if you look closely you can see the shading that is only given on a photocopier and not a black and white printer.
With regards to taking more coupons than cash your store must be one of the ones where there isnt much of a major problem. In this area there is and as a result all Tesco Extra stores within Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire have adopted a policy whereby they will take only 5 coupons per customer per day and will only take food coupons for food purchases and non food coupons for related non food items (ie - mitchum coupons can only be used against toiletries)
When I say taking more money on coupons than cash this does not include payment by debit or credit card which accounts for over 70 percent of our takings. The other 30 percent is made up of cash and coupons of which a year ago coupons accounted for less than 1%. The highest value I have seen for coupons in one day was 12 percent with cash at 9% and 79% card. We also reached a point where one in three transactions had tendered a coupon of a cash value of some kind.
You also have to bear in mind there was a lot of abuse going on - we had one family coming in three times a day, mother, father and teenage son with handfuls of coupons each. It finally came to a head when the mother complained that a cashier wouldnt let her put her shopping through on three seperate transactions. She claimed she needed three seperate reciepts but soon kicked up a fuss when we told her she couldnt use more than one of each coupon accross all three transactions!
I have seen more people go through our tills with three bags of shopping and paying less than a pound for the lot because they have handed in £15+ worth of coupons - these are the people that come in every day without fail and therefore never pay for any of their shopping!0 -

its a shame the family just didnt get banned, rather than putting limits on other ppl. i think we are talking about the same store and the SA other week told me they still go in. pity these ppl spoil it for the rest.
do you know when the 5 moc per transaction is coming into force? TIA0 -

Around 70% of the money we take is on card the rest being on cash and coupons - we reached a point where on some days 20% of our takings were on coupons. in the cash office we would often process 500+ coupons per till per day
i dont think you all realise just how many of you are using coupons to your advantage!!!!!
I totally agree with what you say about the policy being abused. It really annoys me.
But i have never used more than 5 coupons, i usually only use them on a £25+ shop, i have never copied a coupon, and i have never taken the micky.
Dispite that, i have been treated like a crook on many occasions by the staff. My local Tesco only takes ONE coupon now, instead of the FIVE they used to - so i don't even bother now unless i have to call in for something i really need. Even when using just one coupon, the other week, i was acused up photocopying it in front of loads of people. A personal appology from the manager just didn't cut it. I have now spent £1500+ at Sainsburys since abandoning Tesco's for my main shop, just a few months ago.
As i have said before, people steal from Tesco, but you don't call everyone who enters your store a crook. People use stolen/copied debit and credit cards every day, but you don't accuse every card user of being a criminal in front of other customers. So why do staff, mainly the older women, feel its OK to acuse every coupon user who enters the store of using fake coupons, just to see their response? Its because coupon users are looked down on, like scroungers, for trying to save money, and Tesco don't care about insulting the "bottom end of the market". It's not our fault your policy changes daily. You don't even tell us until we get to the till - after we have finished our shopping. It's too little too late.
Tesco make a lot more money than they realise from accepting coupons. If they do stop taking them, people will just go to discount stores instead. After all, these don't already have a premium added to the price of their goods to help cover the cost of such facilities.0 -

Well said!! I too have been made to feel like a second class citizen and a real pariah at times (only from the older lady SA's). Tescos either have this policy and accept coupons graciously or not at all. I assume (and hope) it is only a very small minority who are abusing the system. I have never spent so much in Tescos since I have been couponing. I think coupons are a rather clever method of marketing and do encourage you to spend more in store. If administered properly, coupons are a "win win" situation for both shoppers and stores.Coupons Rock! :j0 -
Hi couponmania, on the subject of coupons is it true that Tesco nationwide now not accepting Haagen Dazzs & Betty Crocker coupons? I bought them on ebay some time ago and now I cant offload it at my tesco.
You might be able to use them in Asda or Morrisons though to buy the actual products, better than nothing.Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -

This is also to Tesco's advantage as legal coupons reap more money for Tesco than me actually paying in cash.0 -
Seen on ebay people selling £5 eukanuba dog food internet vouchers, Anyone know where this can be printed off from as £5 moc would come in really handy right now?0
