Something to be aware of with Tesco. Their offers have an end day of Tuesday. Despite the fact that the offers go right through til Midnight [and I have read they only change at 2am Wednesday] they have a nasty habit of taking the signs down during the day on the Tuesday. The offer will still apply at the checkout though, and in the case of reduced price offers, this is easily checked on an instore price checker.

    hth
Actually on a tuesday, when the systems "End of day" runs the offers are removed usually this occurs at 11:04pm upto anytime at 12midnight.

Always go when it is busy, then usually the cashiers don't make a fuss as they don't want a queue to develop.
Alot of cashiers now will check the coupons, as theres notices saying "All none tesco coupons are to be checked by a teamleader" and on selfscan all coupons need to be checked.
Pick your cashier carefully, avoiding any middle aged women is usually the best policy (and I can say that as I am a middle aged woman!).
Just avoid them at all costs ;) they think they don the supermarket because they work there 6 days a week and been there ny-yon 8 years
Personally favour nice young men (as cashiers that is)
The young vunerable staff now receive the most training in tesco (from what I have noticed), they are monitored and if they take a coupon that is against policy or borderline they could be disciplined as far as dismissal
and always make a joke about the coupons I am presenting, saying something like "can you see if any of these go through please, I am a bit skint this week!".
I've heard this so many times :P

If you don't want to spoil coupon acceptance, don't try and use them on petrol (and don't be offended when its handed back to you with a blank look) or pharmacy/tobacco products.

Went to Tesco in Wigan last night, shopping came to £36 pounds, reduced to £25 once my coupons had been taken off.

d.edna - I use the younger cashiers as they appear to be the ones who are more up to date with modern technology, ie obtaining coupons from the internet.

I NEVER use coupons that Tesco can't get their money back on, so there is absolutely no reason for any cashier not to accept them. I have never had any cashier check with their team leader - if it scans and they are happy with it they take it, if it does not scan or they can't accept it for some other reason they just hand it me back.

They are the most naive aswell When I have been helping run the line, Ive heard customers tell cashiers they know the policy better than the cashier and they can take the £5 off an £18 bottle of whisky (Somerfield coupon) and when a team leader comes they kick off.

This is why supermarkets start withdrawing coupon allowances, and people (who have quoted from here) say I have to take their 50 actimel coupons on petrol.

Thats wrong, somerfield coupons other none acceptable coupons scan these result in a loss, I know in my store at least they have to be checked by staff If you even give a borderline one, this could result in the cashier being disciplined and even loose there job

Im saying play fair, (I personally have nothing against the coupons/people who give them) but I don't like when you try and take the michael (Our store accept manufacturer coupons on products bought and one courtesy coupon on a none purchased coupon
  • Hi

This is a post I placed on the NI Board. Can anyone give me some advise on what I should do next as it does appear nobody else on the NI board is a couponer:
    Hi all,
This is quite long but I need a bit of advice.
I recently found out about Tesco's internet coupon policy (for those that don't know just have a look at this forum:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1103953 ) and tried to use some I downloaded in my local one (Ballymena). When I went to use them the SA said there was no such policy and called over a supervisor who also said that Tesco had no coupon policy either so I got them a copy and left it with them (Customer service read the policy sheet and refunded me the value of the coupons I had).

Next week went to do my groceries and was told no I can't use the coupons. I explained what had happened and nobody had known anything, told them that the policy had been put into their folder but the folder could not be found. I ended up just paying for my groceries and brought in 2 copies of the policy the next time I was in and was told that that should be ok. After that I just went to the main CS desk to do my shopping because they have to take all coupons there and they need to take down the Clubcard number on the back of the coupons.

Anyway, yesterday I went to get some groceries and went to use my coupons. To be told by the CS desk that there was no such policy, I told the girl exactly which folder the other SA had put the policy sheet but she would not look instead went to get a supervisor. Who said no and called another person who went away for about 20 mins and came back to say that the deputy manager does not acknowledge the policy and that I can contact CS in Dundee if I want to know why. I tried to explain that I'd been told it was ok as long as the clubcard number was noted and had used coupons since then but was told that had not happened.

    What I want to know
1 - are there any other Tesco couponers here who's store is coupon friendly?
2 - is there anyway I can get a hold of the store manager, I've been told its in between managers, I asked to speak to either the new or the old one and was told I could not.

The thing that annoys me is that I at no point ever abused their policy, I always followed it to the letter and I only used them once a week at most. To tell you the truth the coupons made a big difference to our grocery bill, so I'm reluctant to just let this drop. I would not mind if they set a limit to how many coupons I could use in a transaction (like some of the UK stores do) but to be just told no is annoying.

Feel so much better getting that of my chest!!

I do not like the fact d.edna that you are implying I use my coupons improperly.

As I stated before I only ever use coupons that Tesco can get their money back on, ie they are in date, non store specific, legitimate coupons (no copies) and for items that Tesco's stock.

Please do not imply that I am "taking the michael". When I said about the coupons scanning I mean that sometimes the barcode is not clear enough for the scanner and so sometimes the cashier is kind enough to manually input the code. If the cashier does not wish to do this then I take the coupon back home and hope for more success the following week.

I am grateful for any amount of coupons that the cashier will take from my bill and certainly would not jeopardise this by handing over coupons that would in the end cost Tesco and me money. I only ever use my coupons on grocery items. I don't even purchase my petrol at Tesco's as it is cheaper at Asda.

I also go to young male staff. But its not because i am doing anything wrong, all my coupons are legit.

No, its because the older staff seem to get a kick out of abusing coupon users and treating them like second rate scroungers.

Tesco need to re-train them, for upsetting their customers on a daily basis - not the young ones for being polite to customers, but making the odd error.

I am not in NI, but every time i have had problems, i have just changed stores. The problem with kicking up a fuss, is that customer services are just as confused as the staff, so it gets you nowhere, and can actually make things even worse. My nearest store got so fed up, it banned internet coupons completely.

I rang customer services once, and was treated just as bad as i was by the store. Eventually, they told me i would have no problem at a different branch nearby, and sent me there. When i got there, i was treated appalingly. Tesco contated me yesterday to offer to investigate, but i may just leave it now.

I now shop a Sainsburys in protest, and pop into Tesco to use just one coupon at a time if i'm passing. I saved £2 at Tesco yesterday on a £3 spend. But i saved £15 at Sainsbury on a £40 spend, and then filled up with petrol. Seeing them lose my money is a great feeling, and i got a lot of reduced items with my coupons, so i was over the moon with my savings.

The main thing is to make sure you use only legit coupons and carry a copy of the policy, incase they accuse you of anything wrong. If you use a lot of coupons at once, try using less, as i never seem to have a problem if i use 3 or less coupons. But it does mean going more often.

Hello I have had no trouble so far with coupons - genuine - I would not know how to start to copy/scan and do not intend to try/learn but I am getting more and more worried about using (genuine) coupons because in my local T it depends on who you go to as some SA are pleasant and accept the coupons and others scowl and look at you as if you are doing something VERY wrong. I always smile and chat as it is my nature to do so not in order to try any sort of deception as some staff seem to think.
It is even more confusing now to know what is and is not allowed - is it 10% of shop, mine is usually about £90 or is it 5 coupons and what about the policy I read about using coupons against food and non food being allowed or not allowed even the supervisors at T disagree on that one !! I am getting so fed up with this attitude and if staff are not more pleasant - as I always am with them I also will vote with my feet and shop at Asda,Sainsbury,Morrisons as they are all nearby.I feel sorry for anyone who only has a T nearby
They should be happy to get our custom and stop treating couponers as something substandard - it is T motto that every little helps yet by using coupons they look down on us - some of them at least as some SA are very nice too but not many it is a shame to say> I was waitng at CS the other day when they were very insulting about a woman who had just used coupons and was too embarressed to then use mine and got a very small shop and then drove to Asda where the CS and SA are always very nice and if it weren't for T coupon policy I would never shop there and am even beginning to wonder if the coupon saving is worth the hassle and the upset
