hi im new using internet money off coupons..
i read the tesco poicy you have on here saying tesco excepts internet coupons and you dont have too buy the product has long stock the item..so i printed loads off
did my shopping.handed my coupons in and the till girl rung for help.
they then told me they dont except the coupons.and only except money off coupons when you buy the product but not internet coupons.can any one help me on this.thanks missmoonlight

Unfortunately, Tesco are allowing manager discretion with internet coupons. You don't really expect a different policy from a national company, but that seems to be the way it is.

Yesterday and today, i had no problem at two different stores. I saved over £20. Last week, i was not even allowed to use coupons for items i had bought.

Not only does the policy vary from store to store, but also cashier to cashier. Thats why i always carry the Tesco policy sheet. At least that way, they cannot accuse you of trying to rip them off.

If you can, try another store. Use a few coupons at first, even just one, and feel your way from there.

It does seem that store managers can set their own rules. I use a store quite close to me most of the time and they take everything I offer, no percentage limts whatsoever, but only 1 of each etc.. I only use colour printed internet coupons and have never had any problems at all, if I use Self Scan , then it does bleep and ask for assistance after about 8 coupons , but the SA always OK's it.As I am also a Mystery Shopper and visit other Tesco stores in my area and I do come across rule variations. At an even larger store than my local one I was told only 25% of my shopping for MOC's , be they internet or whatever( but same rules re 1 if you haven't bought the goods etc..)At a Tesco Extra( even larger) I used to have all sorts of problems with cashiers refusing any coupons if I had not bought the product, I got so fed up of this that I asked for the manager, but instead the Checkout Supervisor came and she told me they will take any coupons internet or otherwise and she would sort out her cashiers once and for all, which she did...for a time... and then one or 2 stroppy ones started again , so now I just give the Checkout Supervisors name and ask them to call her to the till.I always stand my ground now and insist they stick to the rules.I do find though that you get less hassle with nice young lads, it's the older woman that seem to give you trouble. So stroll along the checkouts and pick your cashier carefully,I know you should not have to do this but it makes life easier if your easily embarassed when using coupons.......I do agree though, some of them can make you feel almost like a criminal at times, and I do report this in my Mystery Shop report.

    Hi
I know this is the chat thread, but just thought would let everyone know, if you get a Tesco direct catalogue in store (free), and get it scanned through the checkout it prints a £5.00 voucher off next purchase when you spend £20 or over.
You can order online or instore, all the instructions are on the coupon.

Bullshot - totally agree where you come from re coupons, I look up and down the tills usually for someone who has served me b4, I also find its the older ladies that are more arkward, then you get accused of it being a photo copy....like you I stand my ground, I have on one ocassion reported a supervisior for his attitude regarding the vouchers, he refused to accept £5.00 worth of vouchers, ansd the manager told me to bring them back to the store, give the manager his due he gave me a £5.00 giftcard to cover the costs of petrol etc.
About a week later - same incident - internet voucher - the cashier called the supervisior (happened to be him- he took one look across and shouted yes take the vouchers!.

Yes I too find the older ladies more arkward - twice now I have been refused the coupons in Tesco, didn't make a fuss just went to customer service and was given my money back in cash. Supervisor just said I must have gone to a new lady who didn't know the rules!
  • Just been to Wigan branch of Tescos and spent £41 and got £14 of assorted coupons knocked off no probs. I love my local Tescos and all who work in her!! (Well most of them!)
  • Hi 1st post. Big thanks to everyone for coupons and advice on the forums :) keep up the good work

I recently was refused coupons in my local ASDA (kirkcaldy) was told by checkout staff, customer services and duty manager that they DO NOT accept internet coupons. they have even now removed the abilty to use any coupons, including asda ones from the self scan desks!
I emailed the Head office and was told that the store was CORRECT, asda do not accpet internet vouchers. i'll post their reply here if I've still got it.

Anyone else had problems with ASDA?

luckily have discovered both the Sainsbury's in area, Tesco and Boots all accept the vouchers. so not to bad

If Asda are no longer taking internet printed coupons then their policy has changed. Seems a bit odd in these credit crunch times?!

People have posted emails & letters from Asda HQ on MSE before now which confirm that they DO accept internet MOCs.

If you can, copy and paste the main part of the email on here. I am wondering if this is really a change or if you just got unlucky with some eedjit at Asda HQ answering a query they know nothing about.

If I got the reply you did, I think I would phone the number given on the email and say how come your 'friend' was told by someone else at Asda HQ that they do accept internet printed coupons. Ask them to check please with a Supervisor, have things changed recently and are they sure of the policy?

Oooooo, just spotted this part of your post...you do know that in Sainsburys and Boots you HAVE to buy the actual product stated, don't you? Sorry if I am stating the obvious but it reads as though both stores are the same as Tesco in coupon acceptance, which they are not.

Coupons will scan at many a till in many a shop, but that doesn't mean it's OK to use them everywhere the way you can at Tesco, Asda and Waitrose. It is ONLY those 3 stores which allow coupons to be used without buying the right product.

Don't get taken in by the fact that a MOC will scan elsewhere, you can get into huge trouble if spotted using a coupon 'fraudulently' (it could be viewed as deception to use coupons without buying the right product, in a store which does not actually allow it as part of their policy).

Sorry for the lecture, just wanted to make the facts clear about where you can do this sort of couponing.

I haven't been shopping much in my local Asda been using Tesco recently. However my local Asda did take internet coupons from me last week with no problems.

  • They would have the same ID number so it would be the same as colour photocopying which maybe tempting but not worth it you could lead to a change in policy for your store or maybe being banned from your store, even when you click no and get a second copy it has a different ID number
I agree but some people are always going to be tempted to do this as it is like printing money
For myself I would not dare as I am sure that it will come back and bite you on the b** at some point and I like shopping in Tesco so do not want to do anything wrong
I must say though that I have been wondering since I joined the site how people got so many coupons as I print one or two - with the odd Pedigree exception - and reach the print limit yet I read on here about people having dozens or hundreds?? of coupons and wondered where they are getting them from
I have seen on coupons in the top right hand corner that there is a manufacturers bar code and at the bottom where the small writing is it shows the date the coupons were printed so they really are trackable - or so it seems
I read that Tesco are getting coupons back from the sorting house with refusal to re-imburse as they are copies and wondered what T can do about this as their tills - as I understand from members who works there- are very sophisticated and wonder if they can look back against receipts/loyalty cards/card payments etc. and find out who handed in the copies and what they can do at a later stage or if they may just look out for the known customers and stop them at the tills when they are about to pay with copies.
Who knows what action they will take - whatever it is, ask yourself is it worth the risk.
And no I do not work at T I just want to throw open my own thoghts on the matter and do not stand in judgement on anyone either
