Am almost at the end of my tether with 1866 at the weekends. Its been great while its lasted, but I can never get thru anywhere now at the weekend. Not sure whether to go for 18866 or there is another sevice provider, just cant remember the name at the moment. Is anyone else feeling the same. Its been like this for about 2 months now. Has anyone had any feedback (besides them saying sorry its a little busy at the moment) from 1866 regarding this problem

Someone starts a thread like this every weekend - re 1899, 18866 or 18185.

The problem appears to be capacity - but only in certain parts of the country.

Although I had hardly ever suffered from this problem, I opted for a CPS provider which gave me free UK 01/02 calls at the weekend (purely because I'm tight - the saving is less than £2 a month). That is now reaping an additional benefit - distancing myself from the sort of problem you're having.

Can't you sign up to for a CPS which'll give you free weekend and evening UK 01/02 calls?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks Heinz for the link, that saved me looking for it again this w/end icon7.gif

  • I have been used 18866 for the past 18 months until October this year when I have switched to 1899 in conjunction with a cps provider for free weekend and evening calls but still route all my mobile calls through 1899. I have never had a problem with busy tones
until this weekend that is! 1899 has been busy all morning. I am reluctant to move from 1899 as I also bought an orchid dialler to route all my calls so that'd be a waste of money if I just reveretd to full time cps_pale_

During the week, 18185 is half the price of 1899 and 18866 for calls to mobiles (4p connection and 5p/minute).

I've now done this. Can anyone confirm that I can still use 1866 during weekdays? Sorry if this is a dim question!
  • You'll be fine using 18866/1899/18185 provided you keep your line rental with BT and most MSE'rs use a CPS and one or all of those companies icon7.gif

As you have only CPS your calls from BT you can still use short codes like 18866,or still use BT for cheaper NGN calls etc, by dialling the Bt overide code 1280.

Yes. As long as you leave your line rental with BT, signing up with a CPS provider just means that your calls will go out via that CPS if you don't dial any other prefix (e.g. 1899, 18866, 18185 or, if you have to, even 1280 to 'hop back onto' BT).

Does anyone else suffer from constant engaged tones on a Sunday. This is the 3rd week we are unable to use the service!!! Strange. Only on Sunday!!!

    Skronk
