Huge white deodorant marks on my tops!

  • do not worry it does come off once it is washed .........well thats what happens to me good luck anyway
  • It doesn't come out when washed.

If it's just a white mark where fabric brushes skin with deodorant on, that comes out fine.

However, I think you're referring to sweaty deodorant stains (you get them in armpit areas on clothes). I get them if I have a sweaty day (what a lovely conversation!) - on dark clothes, over a long time, they turn the material white and stiff. With white clothes it's a yellowy colour.

I've tried using Vanish etc pre wash but it doesn't really help. In the end I replace tops.

I have switched deodorant brands and sweat less now which has eased the issue.

If anyone has a way of getting rid I'd be interested too!
  • Thanks for that ... she showed me them and they were hard and white (not yellow) so I guess they are fit for the bin.
    Thankyou

I haven't heard of a way to get rid, only to prevent, which is by soaking the top you've been wearing and washing as soon as possible and not tumble drying, ironing the affected area if you didn't get it washed quickly as that just makes it worse.

If it's not too bad, the bicarbonate soda and vinegar works quite well but once it's there, I don't think you can get rid.

If you can, I'd love to know as well :)

    Thanks

  • the old ways are the best, dab the effected area of the garment with undiluted white vinegar and then wash in the normal way depending on the staining may take a couple of goes. HTH

  • Hello, I was trying to money save so I decided buy Asda's own brand deodorant in the bigger 200ml spay cans, first time I saw this size on sale and it was cheaper than the usual 150ml cans that I buy.

After using the 200ml spray it started leaving white marks all over my black uniform shirt for work. Never had this problem with the 150ml cans so I have since gone back to using the smaller size. It seems that these 2 can sizes are a different product even though they have the same label.

But after many washes I can't get rid of these white marks. Its so covered in them that I'm having to wear a fleece at work all day even when its hot as I don't want to reveal these white deodorant marks.

I've tried treating the areas with pink Vanish spray but that hasn't shifted them. I usually wash at 30, do you think if I try a wash at 40 or higher if that might help?

I've tried a search on here already for this but I've only found posts linking to other posts that then go on about washing powder marks. I know its not washing powder that's leaving these marks.

    :(

    Thanks
  • I'd write to asda as it sounds like a formulaion problem to me,
It may be that in the big can the ingredients mix differently with the propellant and it comes out at a different rate.

Probably will be a bind to get out, the active ingredient in most deodorants is aluminium salts and may be pretty hard to wash out, you could try soaking in water with a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar added prior to a hand wash (in separate water to any soap powder) to make it very slightly acid, to help dissolve the salts.

I guess as a preventatve maybe you need to change the way you put it on, I would wait till the deodarant dries then wipe off excess with a towel and I always fold tops up at the bottom to stop smears on the outside as you pull them over your head.
