hmmm interesting, just called h/b who had previously told me that cashing their cheques is impossible without a bank a/c. they said if i go to almost any bank - coop, barclays, nationwide etc - with id and proof of address , they should cash it for me over the counter..............
i don't know if i believe them and can't go now cos got to wait in for OR phone call.
i will let you all know.
of couse landlord doesn't want cash but a standing order but maybe if i wave 565 quid under his nose i'll get by another month............?
this place is excellent, really gets a person through the panics. ta.

Try ringing one of the said banks and asking if they will cash the H/B for you. Worth a call before you go traisping(sp:o ) in there. Then if not you still get the chance to ask the OR for advice this afternoon.D

08/08/08 this is exactly the same situation with the Co op i had. after i was declared BR, i went on the phone to the coop iwas then told i was being reffered and asked me to call on the following wednesday. on wednesday rang them up they told me everything is fine i was being accepted will receive card etc.. within 7 to 10 days.

7 -10 days later i received a letter saying they refused me due to mismanagement of my previous account . i appeal but no to avail .. anyway i was successfull with barclays.

aparently in my appeal the coop told me that now they are refusing undischarged Br if they are a creditor they went further saying it is a new security measure blah blah blah ......

managed not to burst into tears, saving that for the OR (in forty minutes)

    hiya fatou.
yes, looks like you are right about coop. even tho they told me otherwise on the phone. have sent app form spec delivery to barclays (4 quid). will phone up and hassle them like hell later next week. looked at the thinkbank thing, but we are talking 37.50 just to get rolling. i really really do not want to spend that.......

Well you need to explain all this to the OR this afternoon. Good luck. With any hope they will be so busy trying to sort our bank account out he will bypass some awkward questions;)
