previous a/c was with alliance and leicester, i ran it perfectly for over a year. no debt, zero, none. i called a week before br to ask if they would keep it, they said, madam, as of this moment your a/c is closed!!!!!!! we will not reopen it. go away.

at a push how about writing a brief note to landlord explaining that due to a few 'unexpected problems' and as you are in the process of changing bank account unfortunatley the rent may be a week or two late this month. and that you are very soory and have done everything in your power to ensure timely payment. grovel grovel grovel, sorry sorry - wont happen again.
apply for basic account, send rent asap. we had to do a similar thing with a landlord a few years back, he was surprisingly good about it.

Hate to say it, but how about that 'thinkbanking' account, it costs £12.50 a month, but it might get you out of a hole right now and give you a bit of breathing space to get yourself sorted. You only have to give 2 weeks notice if you want to close it.

yes peachy, think banking might be a way forward - i will look into that now.
post office accounts are NO GOOD for housing benifit payments. only income support, jsa etc.
