I've thought of this for sometime. I think you're not meant to submerge it, in case the spindle mechanism (which locks into the motor) becomes siezed
I don;t wash mine; it just goes back into the BM ready for next time
I'll add this to the Panasonic BM thread later to keep queries together.

Thanks everyone for responding. I'm so glad it isn't going to cause any permanent damage. OH would probably use it as an excuse not to do any more "helping" round the house in case he messes something else up!!!
It is at the moment sat on a tea towel, I may try it in the oven for a few minutes later when I put it on to cook dinner.0 -
You aren't supposed to wash the bread maker pan because the shaft going through the bottom has a bearing in it. If you get water in there it may corrode and seize up. The manufacturers will have paid a lot of attention to making sure that liquid doesn't leak into the bearing from inside the pan, but much less from outside.
The occasional brief dunking won't do any harm, but it's not advisable to leave it to soak.If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0 -

I've read alot of the threads (though not all) - but although I've seen people indicate the power usage is 6-8p or so, I wonder if anyone can tell me how many KWh are used?
I don't have E7, and also live on my own, so trying to figure out the financial impact a SD254 would have on me and whether I can justify it.
Thanks
I'll reply to my own post as no one else didI bought an SD254 in the end - and can confirm that a Large White Loaf on a 4 hour cycle used 0.49KWh - which for me works out as 4.5p

I've just bought a Panny SD254. It's my 3rd time to use but when I turn on it keeps saying that the Fast bake 4 hour option is on and proceeds to start this cycle. I know this is the default and you should then press Select to choose the correct programme but nothing happens when I press it. This happened last time I turned it on too but I somehow managed to override it.
I can't this time though. Have tried pressing each button and then holding down all the buttons. Start/stop, select......
Unplugged left for 15 mins+, plugged back in same program.
Can anyone help? Have I got a faulty machine?
I've got a banana cake waiting to cook and still have got to make bread for tomorrows brekkie.
Thanks.0 -
I only use the 4hour bake programme for the white/brown bread.
After selction and pressing the ON button it doesn't appear to do owt for 30minutes due to the ingredients soaking, then you hear it start slowly stirrring before getting going proper.0 -
Finally managed to get it to the Bake cycle. Again don't know how. I'm going to keep an eye on it, it shouldn't be that hard to start it on the right programme!
Thanks for trying to help Old Joe - sorry if I wasn't clear in my OP I was trying to choose a different cycle than the basic bread one, it wouldn't give me a choice on any other option.0 -

Press to start or cancel/stop the programme. When start is pressed the start/ stop light will come on and the programme is set. If you wish to change the programme you must stop the operation by holding down the start/ stop pad for 1-2 seconds. The display will go blank and the start/ stop light will go off. Press the select pad to reactivate the screen and then re-programme accordingly.

Sunnyday thankyou!!!!!

Spot on and I can now operate my breadmachine properly. Thankyou again!0 -
Hi Peeps,
I'm trying to work out the size of loaf this machine makes - I can't find it in the manual anywhere. I've picked up some Parmesan and Sun Dried Tomato bread mix and the instructions depend on the size of the machine.
I have a choice of 400g (1lb), 600g (1.5lb) or 800g (2lb)
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
