    Hi,
Just wondered if anyone had any idea approximately how far into the 'raisin' programme the SD254 beeps to let you know to add raisins etc?

I might not hear it if I'm in another room...

    thanks

  • You people are really making me want to get into bread making!

I've read alot of the threads (though not all) - but although I've seen people indicate the power usage is 6-8p or so, I wonder if anyone can tell me how many KWh are used?

I don't have E7, and also live on my own, so trying to figure out the financial impact a SD254 would have on me and whether I can justify it.

    Thanks

ive got a very old panasonic (sd251!) which has been working fine (it's had no use for the past few years so is nearly like new!) but i'm having strange things happen to my fruit loaves! i always use the same recipe from the booklet that came with it but just lately the mix has been turning wet, ive tried to remedy this by adding more flour and resetting the machine but strangely after it has seemed to work the mixture turns slack again, please tell me im not going mad  i just can't work out whats causing this.

As the question says. With our Panny 254 we have had success making both white and wholemeal loaves.
The 2 questions that we would like the answers to are.
Why is our bread grey and not white like say, Warburtons. Also why does our bread not smell like bakers bread both when freshly cooked and even after standing.
The consistency, shape and appearance are great but would like to know those answers if you can please.

I've no idea why your bread is grey I'm afraid. Maybe you should try handbaking bread. I guarantee it will smell like bread;) Thankfully my bread never looks like Warburton's so I'm not sure how you would achieve that.
  • i had a panasonic for xmas and love it, my bread is white and smells like bakers bread. Im currently using lidl flour and hovis yeast as I tried Allinsons and didnt like the taste as much.

Ive also made fruit bread which has been wonderful too.

I dont know why yours is going wrong, I simply follow the instructions and recipe and hope for the best and Ive not had a bad loaf. Good luck for future efforts though x

it's not pure white because it hasn't got so many yucky bleaching agents in it - though my white usually turns out more pale yellow/creamy coloured than grey! not sure what the problem is if yours is

As for the smell, mine usually smells slightly more cakey from the breadmaker than it does from the shop or when baking by hand - not sure if that's what yours is like? HM bread can take a little getting used to if you're used to processed white sliced from the supermarket
