Hi. I bought my mum the sd254 for christmas and she is having a few problems with it. On the basic white loaf and the fast bake, the machine beeps 8 times when it is finished but the flashing red light stays on. She has left the loaf in waiting for the light to stop but then it starts to burn. Is she doing something wrong?

Also, when she does bring the loaf out it is very heavy and stodgy. After so many good reviews (courtesy of this site and why i chose the panasonic) she is really disappointed. Any help would be great.

Hi again! No one has replied yet and my mum is dancing round the kitchen wanting to make a new loaf! If anyone knows about the red flashing light we would be eternally grateful!:j

I agree with jammy dodger, you need to take the loaf out when it beeps. The light will keep on flashing until you press it.I think the heat in the loaf makes it start steaming a bit, which might make it heavier than it should be.I know that if I don't take it out straightaway, there can be bits of condensation on the insides of the pan and it ends up a bit soggier than usual.
I'm sure your Mum will crack it after a bit more getting used to it,and soon have it off to a fine art.The only problem then is keeping your waistline (I speak from experience !)

I wasnt too keen on the bread from the panasonic either, and OH hated it,thought it was "cakey"...looked great, just didnt taste great,I found the only one my girls liked was the sandwich setting. But read was always "damp" I phoned Panasonic helpline, they told me to buy Canadian flour,!,and try 5ml less water.
I think until recently panasonic was THE breadmaker, but it has some strong competition now and is no longer voted best by Which(apparantly)
PS/Sorry just realised my reply probably wasnt very useful,So since you already have the panasonic you could try the sandwich setting(i used it overnight cos large loaf took around 5hrs i think)or if you have a large Sainsburys nearby maybe try and get Canadian flour and see if it does make a difference.good luck

I have a panny too. I use cheapo Mr T bread flour (67p 1,5kg) a sachet hovis yeast, 1tsp sugar, olive oil and 1tbs dried milk powder water.

If you find the texture ok but the taste bland maybe try adding a tweak of some herbs or maybe some mustard powder

I use the Thomas Allinson Dried Active Yeast (125g) (yellow tin)http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/sains...east_125g.html in my Panny

8 years ago had a recipe with oatflakes in..must try and find that one again. Any idead on how to convert amount of butter to Olive oil?
