    warm water is best. my recipe book for my breadmaker specifies warm water. and i just use supermarkets own brand of strong bread flour.

    my bread is yummy. try adding bits and pieces when it beeps on the 2nd knead cycle: grated cheese, roasted garlic, onion, herbs. even chopped up left over roast potatoes.

    good luck. we dont eat any shop bought bread now.

    BM bread is better than much shop-bought, but it's not to everyone's taste ;) Have you ever made bread by hand - that way you'll know what the best bread tastes like :D

    Possibly post your exact recipe and exactly why you don;t like it and maybe someone can help.

    For a small loaf, we have used as recommended in Panasonic book:

    3/4 tsp. Yeast
    400g. Strong white Flour
    1 tsp. Sugar
    15g. Butter - we used Clover
    1 tsp. Salt
    270 ml. Water - we used it straight from the tap.

    The texture was OK but lacks flavour and is bland.

    Try using half wholemeal or Granary flour - that'll give more flavour ;)

    I suspect that your palates are more accustomed to heavily salted processed supermarket bread,as others have said HM bread is not to all tastes, some just prefer Smartprice sliced ;)

    However do persevere, and as stated, try 50/50 wholemeal / white, or a granary even

    We use butter instead of marg. The recipe with olive oil in is nice too. It could just be that you're used to the taste of very salty, processed loaves. You could try making an olive loaf or a cinnamon/raisin one to see how it turns out with more flavours in it?

    I read on a different post that with the Morphy Richard you add the water last. Why the difference between MR and Panasonic which tells you to add the water last?

    I have a panasonic one and i love it. Much prefer it to supermarket bread. have you tired making the tear and share breads in the recipe book they are amazing and have lots of flavour. i also make the cheese and bacon bread recipe a lot and that is delicious - even more flavour when toasted!!!

    I always use butter, marge just doesnt seem to work as well and Mr T's value is great! I have the same breadmaker as caveman38 and use tap water too. I have found that you get a nicer loaf if you dont use the 'rapid bake'. (Unless you need to)I set it to be ready by 7am in the morning and its much better.
    Taste takes a bit to get used to but I suppose im used to shop bought bread and not the proper stuff !! I love it now, havent bought bread for months!

    I am experiencing the same thing with my new Panasonic. I am enjoying the bread but like caveman said it seems to be lacking in flavour. It probably is just a case of getting used to it. I have baked a medium white loaf on Rapid(1h 55m), a large white loaf on Basic (4h)...both using real butter and Hovis yeast with water straight from tap...and found them to be the same taste and texture. My latest loaf (still cooling) is medium white using tap water that I ran until tepid and 1.5 tbsp olive oil instead of the butter. It smells and looks great and crustier than the previous two loaves so hoping the taste is good too. I am up for any type of bread but OH does not like "birdy bread" (loads of seeds etc) so I am somewhat limited for his bread. The exciting thing is its so easy to bung a loaf in so I'm not really afraid to experiment for myself. The next thing is investing in something to help with the slicing:D.
