Hoping someone spots this question instead of starting a thread for a quick question.
In my Panny you can make a (kind of!) Naan bread. Now it asks for you to use natural yogurt. I only have fromage frais in the house (off work sick) and rather than trundle to the shops for N Yog. do you think I can substitute the FF as that is a type of yogurt is it not?

Just found this and what a great thread.
Sorry if this has already been posted but here goes anyway..
Every so often I drizzle a little olive oil through the hole in the paddle then fit it..
The recipe for my Panasonic SD 253 for white bread was terrible so I used my old recipe..
1.5 cups of tepid water
3tbs powdered milk
2 tbs sugar
2 tsp sea salt
3 tbs sunflower oil
4 cups strong white bread flour .. scoop them don't pack them in
2 tsp of dried yeast
add the ingredients in this order
I set the crust to medium and this makes an XL loaf

Would like a little advice please. I have been making bread very successfully over the last year or so with just a few "bricks". However, laest week, I tried the "Onion Loaf" as shown in the Panasonic manual, and despite following the ingredients and method, I ended up with a brick again but it was edible. It just didn't rise. So, yesterday, I tried again, and very carefully measured the wholemeal and white flours and got the same result. At least it's edible, but both loaves failed to rise and the paddle got stuck in bread both times. Has anyone made this loaf successfully?0

I've now successfully made some very good loaves with my new panny 255, given some to DD and neighbour and they were suitably impressed, naturally
I had my 12 y/o DGD to stay at the weekend, she had her 'cooks hat' on and, among other things,decided to make a loaf. I wasn't there when she started but switched the machine on for her, and as she started to clear up held up the panny measure and asked 'what is this for?'. I told her what it was and asked how she'd measured everything and she said with a teaspoon :eek:. But fair enough, it does say teaspoons in the recipe book. Then during cooking there was a strange, gentle 'tap tap' which lasted about half an hour
An hour after taking the loaf out of the bread maker we cut open a light, perfectly risen, perfectly textured loaf - with the paddle in the bottom!
In future Grandma will fit the paddle, whether DGD will continue with the spoon method or use the official measure is up to her - I don't mind what she does if her bread always turns out so well :T0 -
been thinking about buying a panasonic breadmaker although not decided which one yet. got a question though as the one thing thats stopped me buying a breadmaker in the past is the hole thats left in the bottom of the loaf.
wanted to know do any of the panasonic models make hole free loaves?

Nope, but you could get the it to make the dough then you could transfer it into a normal bread tin?0 -
I agree at best it spoils one slice! I was worried before I got one, but now I dont even notice it. It's honestly not a problem.
As for which model, I have the SD255 which is great, but I bought it for the automatic dispenser which I never use. I make sunflower seed and honey bread quite a lot and I just bung it all in at the start, and never had a problem.

Hi,
I am trying to decide if its worth paying the extra £20 for the raisin/nut dispenser on the SD255 compared to the SD254.
I am not bothered about nuts or raisins, but would like to make seeded bread (sunflower, poppy etc). Can I just throw the seeds in at the start, or do you need to add them part way through ?
I anticipate setting the timer, ready for fresh bread in the morning, so will not be awake to add seeds part way through.
Reading the feedback, people seem to have a few problems with the automatic dispenser, so interested to hear if its really worth paying about 30% more for the SD255 over the SD254.
Any advice much appreciated.
