I've just searched back on my Amazon orders and mine is 3.5 yrs old, i've had it longer than I thought.

I've been searching tonight on the internet for remedies and some i've found are

Try a different brand of flour, one person bought a new panny and then found it was the flour, machine was fine.

Try adding a bit more water, 20ml more mentioned.

A few have said the machine is at fault as its not heating the yeast at the fermentation stage.

Found link below where they mention they cured theirs with tin foil as it was a loose paddle.

  • Hi All, after reading all the great recommendations for the Panasonic on here I replaced my 3 year old Lidl breadmaker with a Panasonic 255. Big difference in the quality of the bread but I'm having a few problems. Hope some members here can help!

White Bread - White loaf looks great but when cut has lots of air holes in it.
50/50 Wholemeal/White - Bread is dense and almost solid at the end close to the paddle hole.

Brioche Loaf - I've made this twice. The first was a yellow buttery type loaf which was dense. Tried it again but this time added some chocolate chips. It came out a normal bread type but very dry and crumbly. DC & DH preferred the first one but it still wasn't right.

Fruit Tea Bread - This is a favourite type loaf in our house but it has been a completed bin job with the Panny. I've followed the receipe that came with the 255. The loaf does rise at all and there appears to be way to much mixed fruit in it. There is hardly any bread just all fruit which is soggy and sticky.
I've made this twice and checked the recipe each time, I think that it might be wrong as it calls for 350g Mixed fruit, while the Cherries & dates are at 50g. Does anyone have this recipe in their manual - can you check the weight?

So overall mixed results - I so want to use this daily as we are a large family who eats lots of bread. I know it must be me as I've read lots of positive reviews.

I've been using Fast Action yeast packs - McDougals, Tesco Strong White Flour or Odlums Strong White Flour, Hovis Strong Wholemeal flour.

    Any info or suggestions welcome.

This might be a good starting point.
  • My new SD255 arrived today :j:j:j
I've just started my first loaf, and machine is currently on...but nothing's happening!!! It's been going 20 mins now, and no noise, no nothing!!

I've checked and double checked I've got it on the right setting, it's on and the timer is counting down merrily...

    Help! Is this normal?

I'm just doing the bog standard white loaf...

Mines does this too. Im not sure what is is actually doing, but, it should be okay. After a little while you will hear it mixing all the ingredients together.

  • The no noise, just sitting there doing nothing, can be alarming. If you are making a 4 hour loaf then it'll be in 'rest' mode and will then kick into action.

Hope it turns out ok, enjoy your first loaf.
