I'm just wondering if you can use dried yeast in a breadmaker. I have a can of Allinson's Dried Yeast and it says it's for handbaking. I've been thinking of buying a BM for ages but if I can't use this in it I'll put it off a little longer...

Also, regarding the Panasonic, I was just wondering if anyone here has had theirs for a long time in regular use. I was reading amazon reviews and a lot of people were saying about the kneading blade or something. I can't actually remember now - sorry for the vagueness.

I tried some of the Allinson's yeast and the bread was awful so I now stick to the Sainsbury's Fast Action yeast. I think you have to do something else with the Allinson's yeast before using.

I have had my Panasonic for about 18 months and it is used most days - never had any problems and wouldn't hesitate to buy Panasonic again.
  • Oohh guess what I just got today. Yes a panasonic sd 55. It was my very late christmas present from the oh. And in a very money saving way he got it for £50. A man had bought it, tried making the wholemeal loaf and didn't like it so he took it back. All your reports are very positive so I will be baking tomorrow. I have had 3 Morphy Richards 1 new and 2 second hand and wore them all out. I gave up trying to make loaves as no one liked them and just made the dough to cook in the oven. So I hope I am not dissapointed with this as I have great expectations of it.

Mine *dances* on the worktop, too. So much so that I thought it was going to end up on the floor

I have bought a silicone baking sheet (on offer somewhere). It's non stick and non slip and solves the problem. I also use it under my Remoska which I thought seemed to slip around a bit to much, too.

I am sure you won't be disappointed, I don't think I have had any disasters with mine apart from using the Allinson's yeast once, I then reverted to Sainsbury's own and no problems. Good luck.

    Greetings one and all.

I finally decided to take the plunge and bought me and the OH a breadmaker that everybody says is the mutts nuts. (Panasonic SD255) I ordered it from Amazon for just over £84 last night and now cant wait until it arrives. (I could have had it today on next day delivery but that is not exactly money-saving. Is it.)

The thought of waking up to freshly baked bread and at a fraction of the cost makes me smile. I have worked out based on what people say it cost to make themit will take me 123 loads to get my money back. And based on approximately 3 loaves a week that me and the OH (she loves it) get through. it will have paid for itself in less than a year. Bargain.

At the start I plan on sticking to the recipes in the book religiously, but I think it is Aldi to do this absolutely gorgeous cheese and onion bread. I will also use that until I think that mine is better.

I have just got in from work to the smell of a freshly baked loaf. Popped it on timer before I went out this morning.

The recipe in the booklet (that comes with the BM) for the sun dried tomato and parmesan loaf is so yummy and I use the Aldi sun dried tomatoes in the jar and their parmesan. It also freezes really well, I slice it and freeze it in bags so that I only have to leave out a few slices if that is all I require.

Hmm. I was just doing some extra research and got some similiar results on google. I'm sure it would work but I think I'll use it up in handbaking instead. I was wondering what yeast to use instead but I'll pick up some of Sainsbury's now you've said that! Thank-you!
