Am I missing something? who's attempting to make us feel bad for buying school uniform from Asda or Tesco? I'm delighted with the £15 Tesco bundle this year, beautiful winter coat priced at £22 on its own (wool blend I believe), trousers my DD will actually wear, and a pack of polo shirts all for £15
.
Mine is still at primary school, and is not allowed to bring in her own pencil case and supplies (the school provides those), so I only have a new bookbag and shoes to buy now, and she's all set.0 -
I bought the £15 deal from Tesco online for DD, have to say the coat is fab but I had to return the skirt as it was such bad quality, I ended up getting the one with the pleats which is OK. I hate the shirts so have decided to donate them to the primary school as its not worth returning them and loosing the deal, if it sounds too good to be true.....0

I was going to buy the £15 bundle from Tesco for my 10 year old daughter. She is 5'2" tall and weighs about 5 1/2 stone, so she is stick thin. However, the girls coat, button-up front, slight ruffling and hood, has very narrow arms, taking into account the fact that in winter she would have her school jumper on under the coat, she would be very uncomfortable. So it's pointless buying the 'bundle'. I even tried the 13-14 yrs which was huge in the body and still narrow at the sleeves. What shape of children are these uniforms made for?0

Just been on M&S website, they have a really nice brown pleated skirt there -(can't see a butterfly on it!). No delivery charge at the moment with code UNIFORMS at checkout.0

Ive had to buy a pack of two shirts every week for about £3.75 (they were an addition to shopping list everey week like milk & bread) from asda as she was coming home from school with her shirts wrecked (complained a number of time to teachers about aprons etc I was told they do wear them
)
DD is not having any more school uniform till hopefully after the XMAS hols.
Is this reasonable????????

I work at a school and know that the teachers/teaching assistants do get the children to wear their aprons when doing anything vaguely messy, but kids will be kids!My youngest son is now 6 (going into year 2) and I remember that in Reception class his tops got ruined quite regularly. Plenty of other parents just sent their kids in with their stained white tops, the teachers don't comment on it, so it depends how 'anal' you are as a parent I suppose!
I would say that in year 1 and above they don't do as much painting etc as in reception year, but you should still budget for new white tops every other month or so. I find that Asda//Tesco are cheap enough that the tops can be thrown out if the stains won't budge.
And just thank your lucky stars your daughter isn't at secondary school yet, where everything has to be bought from the official supplier and costs a fortune! :mad:0 -

Or an infants like ours which has the polo shirts in an odd colour that is really hard to get hold of in shops, but easy enough to buy at £7 a shirt from the schoolMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Surely one of the main points of school uniform is that if you get it stained with paint, it doesn't really matter? Or am I a Bad Mother because mine went through junior school with chewed cuffs, and secondary school with tippex on their blazers and black ink on all their shirts?Signature removed for peace of mind0

Just my opinion, of course, but the only thing I've ever bought part way through the year is trousers, because wearing trousers half way up to their knees does look a bit 'off'.
Not a problem for us. The primary school that my 10 year old son attends requires ALL the boys to wear short trousers all year which is not uncommon round the Liverpool area. Apparently some of the older boys tend to moan about it, but it's the school uniform! However my son actually LIKES wearing shorts and prefers to wear them all the time, even at weekends!
Problem solved!:beer:0 -

DS wore shorts every day for about the last month of term just gone, because his trousers were flapping around just above his ankle. I think at that age (6) they look unbelievably cute in grey shorts, although DS was sporting legs the colour of milk bottles with lots of bruises from football. About 2 days before the end of term I found two pairs of school trousers in a larger size that I'd squirrelled away for him!
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0
