  • I do want to stop, dont get me wrong i like the thrill of gambling... doesnt everyone... ironically though... i'm a terrible gambler... i mean some of these stories on here are of people winning then loosing it all... haha i have only just lost it all.

I just told the mrs, we have just put K9 block thingy software on the laptop... she has put the password on. My main gambling is at work when i nip out at lunch time to go to the bookies... so now taking pack lunch and not taking any cash.

I think i will look for a meeting close to where i work 80 miles from my home... but appreciate what your saying about the fact other people will be there etc.

I'm also hoping getting involved in this site will help.... will keep posting at let you know how i'm doing x
  • hi everyone, hope u r all ok! i'm ok atm but have noticed that whenever something stresses me out i start thinking about going to the casino. i HAVEN'T been and don't intend to either but the thoughts r still there. i haven't contacted GA yet either which i think i am going to have to do. i know u've all given me that advice b4 but i think i needed to realise 4 myself that willpower alone is just not enough! still trying to keep busy with other things but i am struggling today :( if it wasn't for me posting on here & having support from all of u, i think i would've gone and played blackjack today! i am disgusted that i am even thinking about it as 10 days ago i was a wreck with no money to pay bills etc. anyway, hope u all have a good evening :) oh btw, welcome moneyspender, hope u find some support & good advice on here. good luck with not gambling :)

    well done moneyspender and shaza.

It is difiicult trying to stop but by putting all the barriers in place you can make it easier for yourself.
    Block on the pc
Dont carry money, moneyspender, a packed lunch is a good thing, that way you have no need to go out at lunchtime
Dont read the sports pages in the paper
shaza, if you need a membership card, cut it up, call them and cancel your membership
get to a GA meeting. Take your partner too or get them to drop you off and pick you up. I promise its the only place other than here you will find people that understand why you do what you do knowing full well its hurting you and the people you love.

I didnt really want to go, i was 31, female and was scared. When i got there i was the only woman in the room. That was in 2006 and i still go, every week, i have made dozens of friends, they keep me strong, like a dose of medicine once a week and a huge amount of people i can call at ANY time who i know will listen to me.

Nothing to lose, everything to gain xx

Have a great gamble free day everyone. Shaze, Moneyspender, come back tonight and let us all know how you got on.... just for today, i will not gamble

Well done money spender, your taking some very positive steps there and they will help :) Good to have the MRS on side too, it will make it somewhat easier to deal with when you get tempted, to have some support at home.

Shaza well done on day 10 :T Its strange how quickly the urges come back once you have a bit of money / stress / unhappiness isnt it.

Samorgo seems to have gone AWOL, Hope shes ok and enjoying a gamble free life?

  • OK... Day 1 over..

And was fine felt great.... didnt have any money with me today so will be a real test when I have some with me.

But am excited that I'm finally sorting this out. The Mrs has been great I thought she would go Nuts, and she said she was disapointed but glad I proactively told her

We have decided that I will start and invest £50 a month in shares... so sort of a gmable but a constructive one, I guess.

This thread is a real support... good luck to everyone doing the same thing, safety in numbers and all that.

    appreciate the help guys.

    Well done moneyspender. :)

Why invest in shares? Why not just put it in the bank?
You need to get the "winning" bit of your brain out. No gambling means exactly that. No gambling.

Having no money on you is great. Dont test yourself by having some. You Mrs knows so let her carry the money.

  • Hi everyone - I'm back!!!
Sorry it seemed as though I was AWOL but having put the block on my laptop and having very little money in the bank I don't really have any urge to come on the computer... after all the vast majority of my time online when I was gambling was either to gamble (98%) or to check how much money I had (or hadn't got more likely!) (1%) or trying to obtain more funds (1%) - without gambling I don't really have much to do online...

Instead of spending my days sat on the sofa in front of the laptop wasting my money and my life I no longer switch the laptop on as soon as I get up but rather I fill my days with activities (whether work, housework, gym or getting out and about) and I've got to be honest I feel so much better - LIFE REALLY IS BETTER WITHOUT GAMBLING!

Don't get me wrong I do miss gambling and do wonder from time to time if I had one more go whether it would be a lucky go and would improve my financial situation but I try and remind myself that that isn't reality and if all else fails I can't access the sites because of the block - I beg anyone who is an online gambler to install K9 it really is a brick wall that stops you from gambling and if you are dubious you must ask yourself why? I know I wasn't keen because I didn't want to lose the opportunity to gamble but it is the best thing I have done and wish I had done it a long time ago (when I first found this thread)...

Gambling is an addiction that really does need to be tackled one day at a time but it can be overcome if you really want to...

Stay strong and good luck to you all xxx

Hi Oregon, lose the shame and post your story x I'm almost certain you are no worse than anyone else who posts on here. If you want to stop and get that 32k debt down we will help as much aws we can with support and advice.

Well done Samorgo... What an excellent post. So different to a few weeks ago! I do sometimes wonder 5 years on how i found the TIME to gamble....my life is so busy now i think i'd find it almost impossible without losing all the amazing things in my life now.

Anyway, I'm off to Norfolk today with hubby to stay in a nice posh hotel (pipe dream when i was gambling!)

Have good gamble free day everyone xx
