And your receipt gives you what protection exactly?

I'm guessing a false sense of security.

Though, it might help if you decided to take a buyer to court. It's going to do buggger all for PayPal though.

I think if that were true then all those candid shots of celebrities that fuel the gossip pages would soon dry up. Several celebrities have tried suing papers for candid shots and things they think invade their privacy, what-his-name from Blue Peter and the drugs incident comes to mind but we have quite lenient privacy laws in this country.

Exactly. And CCTV cameras would be illegal. If someone is on your property or in a public place, you can film them all you want.

I think people really need to be clear about paypal/collection and delivery in general.

    The facts are simple.
    1) You cannot refuse a paypal payment, you cannot return it and ask for cash instead you can't even say you 'prefer' cash on collection.

Well you can, but you risk a crooked buyer dobbing you into ebay for being a crook (only crooks refuse unsafe paypal, so say ebay (paypal's owner)).

If the item is an expnesive one and you don't depend on ebay for your income, just demand cash on collection.

Remember ebay's rules are there to make ebay more money, and ebay rules/law do not equal real UK law no matter what they might lead you to believe.

If a seller doesn't want to accept PayPal, they shouldn't be selling on eBay.

    You've been brainwashed by ebay...

You seem more obsessed with ebay and paypal than the rest of us who actually use it.

I've said it before but if you really dislike them so much for keep catching you out and banning you surely it would be best to just walk away and leave it and use a different place to sell, you are quick to tell us all to go elsewhere but don't seem to want to follow your own advice

Surely it would be some sort of proof that they had received the goods if you took them to small claims court.

Don't they have to put CCTV signs up? Is this not, then, the same as telling someone you are going to photograph them?

So on the wider issue, then, if eBay says you must accept PayPal, and PayPal don't allow for collection in person as a valid delivery method, what are eBay's views on collection in person?

As per one of my previous posts, the pinks (who work for ebay) have stated in writing on the consumer board that ebay is possibly not the venue of choice for collection only items.

Small sellers selling of bits and bobs of furniture etc that need collecting are NOT the sellers that ebay want. They are more interested in a shopping mall type of scenario with large name sellers shipping thousands of goods every week.

It is therefore naive of us to think that ebay will want to make any concessions for us smaller sellers who a) they don't want and b) selling items they feel are not the correct sort of image for ebay.

    Thanks.

Does that extend to selling cars?

Cars are excluded from the paypal requirement and sellers are free to continue to require cash on collection.
