Yes, you have to offer and accept payment by PayPal. You can't say you don't accept PayPal for collection items, nor can you refund a PayPal payment and request the buyer pays by another means.

I don't see why not if the buyer agrees which most reasonable buyers would. They get the chance to inspect the goods before paying so they should be happy with that.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much over such a low value item.

£20 is alot of money to some people

    Just my tuppence worth

I think people really need to be clear about paypal/collection and delivery in general.

    The facts are simple.
    1) You cannot refuse a paypal payment, you cannot return it and ask for cash instead you can't even say you 'prefer' cash on collection.
    2) There is a simple and straightforward list of postal methods accepted by paypal that track to delivery, unless you use one of those *and* it tracks you will lose a claim for non delivery. Even if the Pope himself signed an affidavit to say he witnessed the buyer collecting the item it will NOT win you a claim for item not delivered.

Many sellers, me included will no longer use ebay for collected items unless they are cheap enough fo rme to lose without a problem and an ebay pink himself stated earlier this year that ebay is probably not the correct venue for these items anymore.

Exactly, most reasonable buyers will pay cash on collection, but then most reasonable buyers will not be making fraudulent claims for non receipt. However anyone out to scam is going to know the rules and will therefore be insisting on their right to use paypal..and since you can't prevent an opportunist scammer buying your item you must take all reasonable steps to protect yourself or to understand and accept some risks.

Get the buyer's address off Ebay. Then when they pick up the item, just casually mention you can pop-around if there's a problem, as [in low, menacing tone] "we know where you live..."

Just type out a reciept for the item and get them to sign it, do 2 copies if you feel better and give them one.

Cash on collection is a bigger problem if they decide they hate the item, and don't want it:eek:

I had this happen to me last night.

Buyer paid with Paypal, so I refunded them and messaged them to ask them if they would mind paying cash on collection, which is what I had asked for in the listing.

Buyer said no problem at all and the item was picked up today.

I suppose if they would have refused, there would have been nothing I could do, but there's no harm in asking if they will pay cash on collection.

And your receipt gives you what protection exactly?

No idea, I just know that you can't film someone without their knowing (and I assume it's the same for photos)...

I think if that were true then all those candid shots of celebrities that fuel the gossip pages would soon dry up. Several celebrities have tried suing papers for candid shots and things they think invade their privacy, what-his-name from Blue Peter and the drugs incident comes to mind but we have quite lenient privacy laws in this country.
