What to get someone going to Afghanistan?

So many great responses that I can't add much, other than:
follow the Boots thread on 'grab it while you can' to maximise offers and Boots points. It should be easy to put together a treats parcel from Boots offers i.e. cleansing wipes etc
Also, if your friend is OK with the smell of mint, mint shower gels are really cooling.

Lush do a mint gel, mint shampoo and Original Source make a mint/tea tree shower gel too.0 -
Thanks
I've been building up a stock of freebies and samples thanks to the freebies board so every box going out will have something nice and smelly for the showers in thereIncluding shampoos and moisturisers etc
Also have some own brand baby wipes etc although might get some "treats" like face wipes that smell nice and will try to get more perfume samples - little ones thoughDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

My husband was there last year and I sent most of the things that were mentioned. He was out most of the time so I did send coffee over, but put it into a plastic tub. I sent loads of wet wipes, shower gels etc.
He ended up asking for tinned foods which I used to send each week. He even got a burns supper when I sent 2 tins of haggis and some smash.:rotfl: I was just missing the turnip, but that couldn't be helped.
I stopped sending books as they had loads of these. I think that anything will be appreciated that comes from home, I would send the small sachets of sauce if he ever gets sent back there, I didn't think of that one. Hope she gets on okay.0 -
Nelski, either you are not in the forces or you are naughty. Afghan is dry not if buts or maybes, also aerosols are dangerous when packaged so I would advise not to pack things like that.
Mrs Tine, I know what you mean about the BX and powerzone. I really miss it especially Yankee Candles. a fried of mine got me some vouchers for my birthday this year and I wouldn't have been able to buy them otherwise. Ranch dressing is another one my hubby and I really miss it.0 -
Yankee candles... hmmm I am addicted to them
They cost a bomb though round here - thankfully one of our best mates is in the US airforce so we get a regular supply (have the macintosh and greenhouse ones burning on alternating days at the moment lol!)
Apparently my first E-bluey has been printed and gone for delivery today! YAY! Will be crossing my fingers that I did it all right and she gets it!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I bought my OH an MP3 player before he went to Iraq but it broke when he dived on it as the siren went off. I would suggest that people either take out insurance or only take cheap ones with them!
A good present for a female would be stuff from Lush e.g. solid shampoo bars or soaps (my OH says he wants me to send stuff from there if he goes out again)0 -
instead of bullet proof vest,a bomb proof vest and helmet! You can't keep a good man down...0

Well the first package to go out contains a stack of stuff: vinegums, jaffa cakes, jammie dodgers, chocolate (was told it's still cold enough out there?), a book, 5 vials of perfume samples (the little glass vials of Avon perfume samples - no idea if she'll be able to use them but I figure they take so little space that if she can't it's no biggie
) a bag of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel travel sizes, 2 face masks (the fabric ones) and a bar of Lush soap. Will get some of the Lush shampoo bars for the next one I think
Was reading some American sites and they suggested beanie bears... second hand ones would be fine. This was for the soldiers to give the kids out there - and being as her main function is liaison out there I thought maybe it was worth copying that? What do you gyus think?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! my missis is in there and comes out end of april...i send her loads of stuff quavers mainly!!!and sent her a mp3 player wiv aload of gud songs on...i cant wait till she comes out cuz im going to sort of do something as ive missed her so much and means the world to me...0

Well she's now stationed out there - right near the front lines (Yikes!) and Blueys and parcels are going out regularly - in case it helps someone else then the things she says they miss out there are moisturiser, face wipes, orange squash and pringles LOL
Small packages regularly are definitely better than HUGE packs longer apartMost of the time they will be able to get to computers even if it's irregularly so sending messages and pictures on cheap USB sticks is a good idea too
Especially for those with kids at home...
