What to get someone going to Afghanistan?

I actually have several flash keys (seem to pick them up through work - we get slide shows given to us on them and they are easily removed hehehehe) so the video is a super idea! Will suggest that her OH does the same even if I have to supply him with the darned sticks and she can have my spare PC web cam to record messages back onDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Maybe a PSP, or a Gameboy advance / DS Lite
Both can be modified... (ahem...)
I concur or a DVD player.0 -
Tins of Spam, Smash and pringles with bottles HP sauce were top of my bro's list. Zillions of sweets and food parcels each week, he was a happy bunny. Toiletries upon mass and anything he didn't want was swapped around with the other lads.0

ask for free samples at all the department stores and large chain chemists of cosmetics and perfumes etc etc - they dont give them out unless you ask. If you need shoe boxes just ask at one of the many shoe shops lots of them chuck them out en mass. apart from that most of the above.0

My oh is off to the desert next week and apparently wet wipes are like gold dust out there!! :rotfl:Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

I dont know if its already been mentioned - but while my brothers been away I've been sending him sachets of sauce you get at cafe's - ketchups, HP, mayo etc. Also sent variety packs of cereal, pot noodles, nesquik, anything that could add water or milk to. And we'd send travel games like battleships and connect 4. There was a halt on delivering parcels so he went without for 5 weeks but then had 7 parcels at once, he said it was like Xmas! Sometimes its just the little things. Hope your friend gets on ok out there.0

I thought I just posted a reply but it's vanished! probably me being useless with the computer.
Anyway, My hubby is away at the moment and his friend was sent a lot of plastecine in different colours. They have had endless hours of fun with it creating allsorts. He said this would be a fab thing to send out if he goes away again. Can also leave behind for others to have a laugh with too.0 -
Hi again all
I did make notes of all your suggestions back last year and have a little stock built up now
She flew out yesterday - I have no idea what facilities are like there (can't even remember where exactly she is!) compared to other places so going to e-bluey her and find out what she can easily get hold of out there. Once I know if she's somewhere near regular interweb and Naafi's etc then I can start deciding on what to hunt for herThe little thingies of sauces seems to be a genuis idea if she's going away from main facilities for any amount of time
edited to add I think she's gone to Lashkar Gah... will double check that tho!
Thanks again!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

When my OH was out there I sent him a parcel once a week, with a dvd or cd (usually bought from a charity shop!), plus sweets, his fave shower gel, some dollars, and some joke stuff like water bombs, or playing cards etc. I also used to put in a photo of me and our dog, or our fav beach, os something nice. I also gave him a wee memory book to take with him with pics and stuff. he said he looked at it every day.
I wrote to him once a week too, as well as emails and eblueys.
It made my day to get a bluey back from him!!! :j
I topped up his phonecard a few times too.
I reckon she will appreciate anything you send, even a wee postcatd would likely make her day!
She is lucky to have a friend like you! x0
