A really productive day today, thanks largely to the challenge-challenge as normally I'd have flitted around all day and not actually achieved anything.
Got the house insurance sorted out - done the B&C separately again but both through Asda as TCB were paying £68 per policy. Done one in my name and the other in DH's so hopefully it'll pay out twice. Policies only cost £80-ish and £118-ish, so after cashback that's only £62-ish for the year. The renewals totalled £350 so quite a bit of a saving made there.
Also got bargain bricks for the driveway/path. Been trawling builders merchants for the past few weeks for prices and the best we'd got was about £26 per sqm, but got it for £20 all in today and they can deliver tomorrow as well. Must review Build Centre very positively on Qype once they've delivered! The plumber has been all day as well and the shower room is now half tiled with a functioning shower (but still no cubicle). Fingers crossed I might even be able to wash my hair before the New Year.
Updated the spreadsheet last night which took forever due to having a 'circular reference' which I couldn't understand and was making loads of boxes add up to zero instead of several thousand, which was nice in a way, but rather annoying when I couldn't fix it. Got there in the end, and although I don't have the figures with me at the moment we're standing at approx 77k which isn't as bad as I thought, considering we're halfway through major garden works, have completed one bathroom and halfway through the second, have bought a car (£800) and a new mattress (£400), plus 2 birthdays and Christmas.
Off to make a mad dash to grab the bar of chocolate that's in the car, hopefully before anyone notices I've disappeared from the desk. They'll all just have to wait...0 -
:j I've Just Done My Tax Return!!!:j
The good news is that the taxman owes me £1600ish for the business losses. The bad news is that I think it should have been quite a bit more but I was far too scared to change anything or estimate anything that I couldn't prove on paper for fear of getting in a right pickle - at least as it is, I've got the paperwork here in case I do get looked into. But I hope I don't as that would be an enormous headache as so much of it was a bodge just to get it finished and although it's as correct as it was going to be, if anyone asked me what the figures were in 6 months time I wouldn't have a clue.
Sorry the hol wasn't so good Floxxie. We've avoided anything fancy with the kids as it's more bother than it's worth taking them anywhere, hence the Sun caravan hols in Northampton and the likes.
Freecycle lot no 1 gone, and the woman may be interested in buying the old car as well for £200 which is better than a slap across the jaw with a mouldy octopus.
Got to drive 30-odd miles to collect DHs friend now (he offered to cycle but it's 40-below outside, he'd probably freeze on the way) as DH told him to come over tonight before he goes back to London tomorrow, then promptly disappeared off to work. Cheers mate. Must see what useful things I can get him to do while he's here.
Well done:T Sounds like you are very motivated now:D

Hi Panda, merry christmas
The plumber has been all day as well and the shower room is now half tiled with a functioning shower (but still no cubicle). Fingers crossed I might even be able to wash my hair before the New Year.
LOL, I remember when we had our bathroom done and were running round to my mums for showers. It drove me nuts . I'll cross my fingers you are up and runnng soon.
I have been following your thread with interest, you have been doing well. We will all get there in the end! Best wishes for a debt and clutter free 2009.

Happy New Year to everyone here too! Thanks for the good wishes, here's hoping we all have a brilliant year. I like the way Hayley-Jayne said it - Best wishes for a debt and clutter free 2009 - that sums it up nicely for me!
DH and I spent last night gutting Adam's bedroom, tidying toys, re-arranging stuff, and most importantly clearing out toys that he's grown out of. We made a really good start at it, but there are still another 2 or 3 sessions worth to go. We stopped just before midnight and sat down to write a list of New Year's resolutions, which took about 5 pages of A4  and I plan to post here in summarised form when I get around to tidying them up.
Up early this morning as DH was at work at 8 (I'm in at 4) and I'm waiting for the driveway boys and the plumber to arrive - just a normal day around here for all of us! Crazy, if I needed a builder or plumber today for an emergency I'd have to pay a fortune but these guys all just said they'd be here as normal - just another day to them too.
So here's to a good year for all of us. Start as we mean to go on, and then actually do the 'go on' part.0
