• ALL residents at the time of completing the electoral roll MUST be entered on the form. A landlord may be doing this.
It is necessary to complete details for those 'close to' 18 so that they are registered for voting. You can register if you are 16 years or older but cannot vote until 18 as at date of this post.

The form for completion IS STILL AVAILABLE on 192.com Instead of putting a link which may change, go to their help section.

If you google your name companies such as this are obliged to remove your details. In some cases complete removal from the internet may not be possible in cases where, for example something happened in the news some time ago and it is not possible to remove (page in newspaper for example) there will be other instances, but sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and other such site much remove your profile if requested. Most will do this on the site but using a remove profile option.

Just a suggestion. If you find something has been put on the internet incorrectly about you, chase it up in case there has been identity theft.

After reading an interesting article somewhere about Debt Collection Agencies and similar organisations tracking people down via Social Networking Sites, I decided to Google my name to see what is publicly available. I was a bit surprised to see mine and my Ex-Partners details on 192.com, along with my home address and the date I moved to the property etc. - especially as I always tick the box when I get my electoral registration form. However I downloaded the form and faxed the number provided to have my details removed. No problem! Then I went on Facebook and set my profile to private so it does not come up in searches and I did the same with my LinkedIn profile. All done - or so I thought! I did another Google search and it came up with a site called “Intelligent Tracing” which held my FULL name and address , -other than the door number -but as my post code only relates to a small number of houses it is not hard to track me down! So I e-mailed them asking for my details to be removed from their site with immediate effect as I have been harassed in the past and I live on my own with a small child which makes me vulnerable, as anyone can just look me up and see where I live. I received a courteous reply from a “data controller” within minutes, telling me “You will need to consult and follow record removal via the following link, which explains the process:
Great – I thought… When I clicked on it and read it I realised they are demanding £10 to remove my details! And they want even more personal details which I am reluctant to give out. Plus - they clearly state that they may add them again in the future, making it pretty pointless to pay for their removal in the first place! It states “We purchase Data from multiple sources including comparison websites, free search websites and other commercial organisations. These entries have been included in our people finding database because we have requested and obtained express consent from the person represented to be the data subject."
(NO THEY HAVE NOT!)
"A data subject does have the right to change their mind and to seek a consented data record removal from our database but we equally have a right to seek payment for the administration involved in that process. In the case of free people search registrations, we apply this charge not only because of the administration involved in removing an entry upon our people finding database but also to reflect the data subject had received our service for free in exchange for supplying their personal details.
Failure to provide the record removal fee £10 per person and evidence of both your identity and the personal information record you require to be removed from our database will result in no reply to your communication and certainly no personal record removal from our database. We would advise you to remove your entry from the council electoral roll records (edited electoral roll) otherwise we may collect/purchase the same electoral roll record again and that will involve another record removal application.”

I have no idea who they are and it could well be a scam so I am definitely not sending money as they can just re-add my details. But people be aware – using search websites or comparison websites is risky as they sell on your details to dodgy sites like this!

Hi, I too have just found all my details are available online via this company - INTELLIGENT TRACING. I have never authorised any company to use my details for anything other than the purpose they are receiving them. My Council has confirmed that I am on the closed list of the electoral role, and always have been.

They have clearly been in existence now for a number of years and they are still SCAMMING people. They ask you to pay to have your details removed and request 'verification information' such as your passport details, bank details etc. I really hope that no-one has fallen for this scam.

Why has nothing been done to shut this company down? Is their Bolton address just another part of their scam?
