I was looking through a site that was pups for sale.
The site had it in sections for the type of breed you wanted.
Once you got this it had pictures and names of dame/sire.
Then you could look into the breed line of the ind. dogs and also a bit about the breeder.
For the life of me i cant find it now anyone know where it is, think it was linked to some magazine .
thanks
the internet is a great place to help you find a new pup BUT only if you use it to research kennels, wins at shows, amounts of litters, pictures of the type of pups a !!!!! throws, where dog shows are taking place etc.
It can really cut down on the amount of leg work but I would never buy a pup off a pups for sale website. It is a great idea to get pics of the type of dog you like in your breed e.g. coat type, markings, face shape etc and compare these with the breed standard.
This info can then be taken to shows where you can meet these dogs and see if they match up to your ideal dog. By talking to reputable breeders, many of whom show or have an interest in the show/working world you will be able to weed out the puppy farmers and any others you would not want a dog from.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Thanks ali-t exactly what I was trying to say (but didn't come out as well as this).
Also I know a KC registered dog does not mean the dog will be 100% perfect/healthy but they do have a scheme (details are on their website) where you can become an accredited breeder (for extra expense of course!) and they do inspect these regularly (again details are on their website). I hope that cleans up at least a bit of the mess I made of my last (and was my first posting on this board by the way) post on this thread, sorry for any offence/confussion caused.1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110 -
Sorry but the KC don't police any breeders - accredited to them or not. They actually rely on the breed clubs to do their checking and reporting for them.
I still stand by what i have said already, if you are looking to buy a pedigree pup then go via the breed club. They are the ones in the know, they know who are good breeders, they will even know what breeder would be breeding pups with the temperament that would suit you (as in my cocker's breeders pups are really only suitable for experienced cocker owners as the line she breeds is very strong willed).
All the KC really does its sets the breed standards and monitors the amount of litters registered. However an unscrupulous breeder will only ever register the correct amount of litters but will breed more and sell without papers or will sell with dog lovers papers at around the same price and tell an unwary new owner its the same thing but just for pets and not show dogs.
As for the OP getting a show standard pup, the only way that is going to happen is if she gets known on the circuit herself now while shes looking. That means going to the shows, getting talking to the owners and the breeders and then getting herself on a waiting list0 -
According to this bit on the kennel club website:

they do police???
You're right about it being done through breeding clubs but surely policing is policing?
I'm confused now!!!!!!!!!:huh:1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110 -

Well if you are happy with that then sure, run with it. But lets put it this way - breed clubs are not going to be having bad breeders associated to them are they? So if the bad breeders are not breed club members - whos policing them?0 -

This is exactly what it is for, before i even go into the breed it gives me an idea of what is out htere. Going to shows is so confusing without the leg work as every dog / name just causes confusion if no information is gained beforehand. Dog world is ordered.
I will not go through the breed society, for a few reasons 1. being I want to pick which type of pup i want , why waste breeders time when it is not the type/ linage that I want. Without prior information about lines, a line is just a name would mean nothing to me, It would be easyier saying " please pick one for me" . Another reason is not all breeders (good ones) give the club the information in reg to litters and also it can be very political back to reason 1..
Kimberly, sorry but obviously you only have selective reading.0 -

Ive double and tripled checked that on the KC site and I cant see where it says you have to be a breed club member to get accredited breeders status with the KC. Even the application form doesn't ask for that information - its just basically a payment slip
Look dont get me wrong Im not down on the KC as such, but they dont do what people think they do. Most people will see KC registered and think they are buying a top quality dog. Unfortunately thats not always the case and indeed my first ever cocker was a puppy farmed pup and yet was KC registered. He was unfortunately born with health problems, he came to me poorly and totally un-socialised at 12 weeks and although he turned into a wonderful pet, the in bred health problems took him from me at a very young age.
I guess thats why I do my utmost to educate people about what the KC does and does not do and do my best to point people towards breed clubs where they stand a much better chance of buying a healthy well adjusted pup0 -

Im sorry to dissapoint you, but no they do not inspect accredited breeders. The reason I know this is because I have puppies myself and I contacted KC about being an accredited breeder. All I had to do was pay something like £75 a year, and that was it.... They will then appoint me as an accredited breeder and would advertise my puppies as this..
I thought that it was a huge con. so decided not to do it..
If they told me that they would be coming out to check home, puppies, mother circumstances etc etc, I would have done it,0 -
My advice is, check out the owners, the mother and see what environment theyve been reared up in.
good luck love xxx0
