but how can a breeder give the wrong info?

because the term BREEDER is too loosely used.

Just because mrs smith down the road allowed her !!!!! to get caught by the local stud does not for a breeder make.
I think this whole thread would not have attracted the attention it has if it had been called "Where to research to find my pup"!
    .
Totally agree, the op could have worded her original post a lot better.
  • If you can't adopt a dog because you want to show, you really need to contact the breed club of you're breed that you want and ask them for a list of breeders to contact. that is the only way to find a reputable breeder really, and then you need to go and inspect the premises and dogs yourself before buying a pup.
    money earned online so far:
pigsback: €100 irishopinions: €80 onepoll: £40/£40 ipoints £30 toluna: £10. Bview: £30 amazon vouchers. £5 amazon voucher from survey. Dooyoo: £35 vouchers.
  • Personally, I would recommend champdogs, there ARE many reputable breeders here and indeed the winner of this years, and last years crufts best of breed, for my particular favorite breed, advertises here sporadically, as do MANY excellent responsible, breeders form my breed. Obviously, there are always some charlatans advertising, and when I first started to look I was warned strongly AGAINST epupz, and to be honest the quality of the site shows what its all about, as unfotunately do the quality of the pups.
As for not getting a show dog from champdogs, what a load of cobblers, my dog has won 57 cc's, and her litter was advertised here, and she was one of three that the breeder kept back to monitor for showing herslef, I brought her and now the breeder wished she had kept her.

Be sensible and do some research in to different breeders, but there are lots of very reputable breeders on champdogs, ignore the rubbish being spouted, take information from one who knows.
You could also ring some breeders , a good one will almost interrogate you as to why you want a puppy, and your situation and they do not like people who come and firstly ask the price, its a life wer'e talking about, not something to be disgarded when we are bored. the breeder I purchased from actuallly told people who she didnt like the sound of on the phone that she no longer had pups, because she needed the right homes for them, happy searching, any questions im happy to help!!

A TRUE breeder will be VERY picky about where the pups go to... think of it as a job interview... they really should put you through your paces.
I don't agree with a lot of breeders but there ARE some reputable ones out there - finding them is... more difficult.
If you're very serious about showing then tell them - be honest with them and say that whilst you want a pet you've always wanted to show and if you're honest they just might help you along the way. They might even give you some tips and tell you about local ring craft classes :)

Not true my dog came from an advert off epupz and he's actually from a long line of champion gun dogs. He is perfectly healthy with a brilliant hip score and is the most gorgeous smily goldie I've ever come across. When it comes to epupz you have to take your time looking for the right breeders, basically if they are advertising constantly then you know to avoid them like the plague (most of them come from wales, home of the puppy farms funnily enough!).
There is no harm in looking on any websites to find a puppy/breeder but it's been said before but I'll say it again, never buy a puppy without visiting (several times if possible) the breeders home and seeing the parents (both if possible) the condition they are living in and the condition of the other puppies first.

    hi
Thanks for some of the advice people have been giving. Cant beleive asking for a simple publication , can cause so much messages.
Incidently still looking for this puplication.

I will not go through epupz, not because of it itself, but i am looking for the site that also gives the pups generation linage, makes it so much easier, as I said names themselves men nothing to me . I know some affixes/prefixes but not histories of them. Now need to start trawling the show results .
In regards to not getting a show dog from a breeder, you do, mabye not their top pup or next but you can still get a show quality pup and at 8 weeks as shopoholic returns has pointed out, breeders sometimes get it wrong themselves..

I know I will get the third degree from the breeders i pick to call, more so as I only accept girls this rings little alarm bells for them,

Have already been showing , while back now and only stoped due to baby/ cost/distance etc

A rescue dog is not an option at all.
  • Absolutely Cheapskate, you may come across a breeder as i did who was really undecided about which pup to keep and which to sell, nobody knows what they are going to grow up into! Let us know what happens.

But are the FTC's on the sire's or Dam's side? You'll probably find lots of FTC's on the male side, but not so many on the mother's side - because it's only the creme of the creme of dogs which come from FTC on both sides....
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I never said I was after the creme of the creme gun dog so I don't really see what your point is here. Dam was a champion and the sire was a gun dog but only as a hobby (they never wanted to compete with him) but then I wasn't after a gun dog like I said, I just wanted a healthy, chunky, child friendly (gun dogs tend to be very big compared to show dogs and have a better temprament) pup which is exactly what I got!
