Go on take him, you may lose him to someone else, holidays and house moves won't upset him if he has lots of attention and treats :D Are you calling him Willy? :D
  • Good luck - my only advice is start as you mean to go on, set the rules you want hi to follow from the start (weeing outside, sleeping in whatever room will be his longterm sleeping place, not getting on furniture etc etc.. whatever your house rules are!) It is easier for the dog in the long run.

When you get him home he will probaly need a pee so let him explore the garden before you take him inside, for a good while, and if/when he toilets, praise him or give him a treat, then let him into the house. Make sure he has some water, but do not feed him till his next normal meal time. For the first week or so feed him whatever he has been eating up until now, then if you want to change it, do so gradually.

Do not have billions of people round in the first few days to see him - he needs to settle with you first. Keep lietting him into the garden very regularly, and praising/treating when he toilets. If he has an accident inside, dont make a big fuss, just let him outside whilst you clean the area well with some biological wash powder and water to remove any smell which may encourage him to go there again.

Start on a little bit of training as soon as you can, it will help the dog bond with you, he may well know sit etc already.

Most of all, have fun, and well done on homing a rescue!!

    I'm so excited for you!

    And jealous...

Can't wait till I own my own home (wow...that could be years away!) and I can get myself a canine companion!

You knew we were meant to be collecting the pug today, well i have just had a txt from the owner saying he was rehomed this morning. she knew we were coming to pick him up at 12noon today. she knew i was buyin him a bed and a crate. I had told my children were getting a pug so they were excited. I wonder if its cos i asked for his records to be faxed to his my vets and maybe there was something dodgey on them so she went with some1 who wouldnt asked for those details. im sat him in tears as i was so looking forward to having him
  • oh no, what a shame!! and how unfortunate that the woman let you get excited and prepared for his arrival.

Is he being rehomed from a private home, or via a rescue centre?

What does the woman say about why she has let someone else have him???

it was a private home. i sent her a txt bk and she said it was due to other people letting her down so she just went with the first person who could see him. i cant believe i missed out by a couple of hours she must have known i was serious and now i have a dog bed with no dog to put in it.
