Tesco - why do people shop there?

Have always shopped at Sainsbugs. You get a better class of shopper-no council house scum. The prices and offers are just as good if not better than the rest and they stock all you could want.
Tesco-ugh.my local is disgusting, chewing gum all over the entrance.dreadful unruly families fill the store.
Asda-even worse.Very limited range of food and the people that shop in there!!Thank god the perceived higher prices at Sainsburys keep the common hordes in Asda and Tesco.
So. You're basically just repeating what you said in your very 'first' insightful post 6 months ago. And now you're up to post 'three'. What the **** would we do without you 1971rr?Sealed Pot Challenge 15 #78

:T Hi everyone,
It's very interesting to hear what other people like and dislike about supermarkets.
Mr Any hates all supermarkets all together and I have to do all the shopping. Also when he goes he spends £100 and we have nothing to eat after 2 days. "But we ate like kings for the 2 days" he says.
However, when I go I spend about £50 for 7-10 days shop. I shop mainly at Tesco. We also have Asda and Saisburys near by - but I don't like our Sainsburys as it is very expenses and have NO choice on veg&fruit and when they have some, it goes off very soon. Though I go occasionaly because there is TK Maxx next door (very dangerous, but I just HAVE to see what they have in) so when I go I also stop at Sainsburys. Also there is 1 thing I like from Sainsburys and that is their Pomodorino tomatoes. I LOVE THEM. When they have them on offer I buy 2 packets as I can eat them in kilos.
I go to local Tesco because it's very clean and they have huge choice. Also Tesco adapts to their customers - there is huge Muslim community around so they have loads of stuff for them for example - and when I go to town I stop on the way at different Tesco and there is many Eastern Europens (as I am) so they have loads of stuff we cannot buy anywhere else.
Occasionalt I go to Asda, but it's not as pleasant shopping there. I also go to Aldi, mainly for their salami and cheap biscuits.
When I am in town I stop at M&S, which is great for treats. From there I love their ready made Lasagne.0 -

Why are council house people scum? dont really like the tone of that, little bit insulting .Everyone has to eat, I live in a council house and have shopped at Sainsburys many times without anyone looking down their nose at me,I also shop in Next and M&S at times and have never had a problem, surely my money is as good as anyone elses.I thought this was supposed to be a class less society, obviously not.Do they allow ethnic minorites and different religons in there,or is it just you that puts up these boundries?
The Scandinavian societies are much closer to class-less, but even there differences exist, albeit not to a scale anywhere like here.0 -
What an interesting thread! Thought I'd give my two-pennorth worth!
Well, I shop at Tesco for lots of reasons.....
1. It is the nearest large supermarket to me. There is an Aldi and a small (but expansion is in progress) Sainsbury's, and an Iceland in my town. I've tried shopping at the other supermarkets, but I find I can't get all of my shopping in one go - I would need to visit all of them to get what I need, and since I work full-time I'd rather not spend my weekend chasing round the shops.
2. Although it's quite a large Tesco, it's in a small Norfolk market town, so invariably you meet someone you know, and you get to know the staff too who are always friendly. And I've never had a problem with fresh food not being fresh.
3. I can get food, clothes, toys, shoes, games, cd's, dvd's, homewares etc all under the one roof - usually cheaper than anywhere else.
4. In the past 18 months, Mr. Tesco has paid for a weeks holiday in Dorset, a trip to Longleat, a trip to Wookey Hole, meals out, a trip to the Tower of London, a London sightseeing bus tour, a trip to the London Dungeons, a trip to Pleasurewood Hills, a trip to Cadbury World, a trip to Warwick Castle and a couple of meals in Pizza Hut - I don't know of any other supermarket that can offer all of that as a reward for your loyalty for doing your weekly shopping!
5. As my kids said on the way back from Cadbury World last weekend - "We'd never go anywhere if Tesco didn't pay for it" and they're right!!
6. My local Tesco is open 24 hours which was a godsend at Christmas when my DH worked nights!!!0 -
hmmm i might give tesco's a go. I normally go to asda in merthyr as i drive past on way to work. But when go on maternity leave i'll be getting shopping delivered so might try tesco's (it's in the other direction never go that way)I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. I'm curious...
GF tots up how much we spend at supermarkets. Each time we look it's about 10-15% more expensive (for the same or similar items) at tesco rather than asda.
So why do people continue to shop there? Maybe the range is better? There has to be a reason since lots of people on OS appear to love Mr T's.
EDIT : typo
its also on my list of why do people queue up to get into the asda car park when a few minutes away theres a tesco and a sainburys but in opposite directions,0 -
The thing i find is ASDA can say they're cheaper cos their items are 1 or 2p cheaper, but Tesco have IMO loads more offers ( buy 1 get 1 free, 3 for 2 and half price) which if you're flexible on brand you can usually find the item you need and get 1 for free which is good if you have a family and need more than 1 or even to pop in the cupboard or freezer for the next week.
I know ASDA do have a few good deals with their rollbacks etc but as a whole their offers aren't always relevant to me.
Also as poster above says car park and checkout queues in ADSA can cost you half hour of your time- what price do you put on that!Busy mummy of 4.:j0 -
TBH I shop anywhere any everywhere - I do tend to stick to Asda and Tesco cos they're the closest of the two but I do venture around when shopping/after particular bargains. We do find the Tesco stuff to just taste better or fresher. Even their value stuff tastes a little nicer
I'm lucky enough to live on the other side of one of the main shopping streets in my town and we have Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Farmfoods, Netto's, Ramsdens, Aldi and Lidl all within walking/short public transport trip distance of each other. There used to be a Kwik Save there too - and there's the local market.
Not too proud/intimidated to shop anywhereThe only thing that puts me off Netto and Farmfoods is that you can't take the trolleys out - despite there being a carpark at the end of them! (they're right next door to each other). So it's impossible to stock up on heavy things like tins/bottles etc for next to nothing and then get them out to your car/the taxi rank outside (especially when you're on your own) On rare occasions (mostly around Christmas time) you do get a shop assistant who'll help you get the trolley outside but it involves leaning it back on two wheels and literally kicking it out the doors cos of the stupid long poles that stop people supposedly nicking their trolleys won't let you out of the doors and then you have to battle the same way to get it back inside - I don't think it matters!
We also have a Morrisons on the outskirts of town which we occasionally visit - beautiful donutsHowever, it costs a lot to get there/get back so we don't often go.
