Local Co-op

it is true yes, subject to approval by the competition commision. You say in your opinion many people will be pleased it is closing, have you considered how the staff are feeling at the prospect of losing their jobs? I imagine that there could be some long serving employees there. And the 25% of people who will miss it, where will they go?
I see your point but there were very few staff anyway and the ones who are young enough to want another job (+ the customers) are, I think, happy enough to have a huge 24 hour Tesco opening very soon just about 100 yards from the Co-op.
I know it is a controversial subject when a large supermarket opens in a village - doubtless it will kill off a lot of the local shops, but from a customers point of view, it's got to be a money saver! The quaint ambience of a local shop is only cute when you're a visitor, not a local who pays through the nose for everything.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
