Use muslin squares, I wipe my baby's bum with them. Get a nappy storage bin on freecycle until they are ready to wash.0

Well, using the jug of water and then patting dry the (now )clean area you will have very little risk of contamination, especially if you wash your hands very thoroughly afterwards.
Maybe it's just me but I can't see how a jug of water alone is going to clean properly without some sort of mechanical assistance to wipe away (how can I put this on a public forum) any ermmmm "residue".
Also, how on earth do you manage to contort yourself whilst sitting on the loo into a position to be able to pour water over rear end and not get it all over the floor anyway? :rotfl:
Besides, it might save paper but think of all the extra water needed!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Well, you use your hand to wash with the water, that's the "mechanical assistance". You tend to pour from the front slowly, it doesn't take much water, about 500ml - 750ml. We only flush when it's a number 2, so we save a lot of water that way.
If this was only about moneysaving I wouldn't consider going back to this, but it is a cleaner more efficient way. Obviously it isn't for everyoneSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I can't begin to imagine persuading older kids - mine are 16, 20 and 21 - that giving up paper is a Good Idea, and expecting them to explain mama's new arrangement to their very many visitors who stay over... who already think my passion for recycling is barmy ("NOBODY else's mum puts rubbish in 8 different bins"...)
LOL - I don't think I could do that with my StepKids either, and DH would probably have a fit!
But we recycle as much as poss, and they are fine with that - probably helped that our local council requires us to separate food waste and glass/tins/paper/cardbaord for recycling, so they are used to that.
I already have a small green lidded box for compsting and a small brown one for food waste as well as my small kitchen bin for packaging which doesn't make the paper recycling bag or cardboard pile....in fact one corner of my kitchen is a mini-recycling centre! The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

the lovely Asian doctor said the UK is obsessed with using paper, other countries use water on their hands -
I read once that the people who live around Mt Everest (Nepal? Tibet?) are shocked by the amount of toilet paper they find on the mountains. They call it 'white man's prayer flags' :rotfl:0 -
I have bought some 'wee wipes' I havent used them yet, they are too pretty!
I will do though as I think that they are a great idea.
About a two years ago I started to use more expensive loo roll and I have found that I used less sheets than the cheaper rolls.0 -

My auntie still does this, its hilarious her house is all swet and nice she even has a loo roll doll but uses newspaper.....and its nto about saving money she is loaded. She says she prefers it. :rotfl:You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?0 -
Im slightly tempted to go the whole hog and stop buying paper for wee's, we used washable nappies and wipes for the kids so i think i could do it but it's persueding dh to break out the nappy pail again and trying to avoid accidents such as dd flushing a wipe.
I did make my the nappies for ds and the wipes but i think i made need slightly bigger ones? Are they stored dry or in a chamomile solution like babies wipes?
thanks0 -
