I accept we should have been dealing with Blazes directly from the start but we had hoped that we might speed the process along.
The quote we gave the insurance company was the original one and they requested it.
In law do Balzes legally have to replace the carpet 'exactly' or can he for instance, get someone in of his own choosing?0 -

The retailer can get someone of his choosing to replace the carpet but it must be a like-for-like replacement.

However Art, maybe it would help if, instead of just giving advice such as go to the Small Claims Court you steered people in the direction of the relevent legislation! Maybe then you would not have to solicit Thank You's0 -
You should argue your case on the grounds of 'reasonability' It is not reasonable to expect an expensive item like a dishwasher to fail after such a short period of time. Demand a free repair or replacement under the Sale of Goods Act.
I don't think you will get far with your local store so a recorded delivery letter to their head office is the best way to go.

My Beko dishwasher broke down today, 16 months old. I intended to have a go at Comet and your post has reinforced my view that this is not good enough. I'll give it a try, thanks!0 -

First time posting, Hi!
I bought a flat screen monitor from Hitachi about 3 and a half years ago, which came with a 3 year warranty. The power failed after about 2 and a half years, so I got it replaced for a "reconditioned machine". They took months to replace it and on the replacement, the power started to fail 10 weeks later. By then the original warranty had expired they refused to do anything about it.
I sent Hitachi a letter and got no reply, and although e-mails started promisingly with the TV company that they subcontracted the repair / replacement too, they had me confused with someone else and also stopped replying! If I'm honest, it is probably more pride than money as they have correctly assessed I don't have the time to pursue it effectively and have had to buy another monitor rather than wait months for a replacement. They simply won't accept that the sale of goods act applies (and both companies blame the other). Defeated?0 -

I would much rather we have the original carpet fitters in to supply and fit the new carpet - they were very good and we liked the carpet - there's no guarantee that if we allow Blazes to do it it will be of the same quality fitting.
With this proviso, and with the knowledge that the carpet is now £70 more are we legally entitled to request that Blazes pay the 'extra'? Or do we pay the extra and Blazes cough up the original carpet price of £685?
Thanks again, your very helpful.0 -
I have had incorrect/faulty items from Ikea. When I returned them to their customer sevrice items I took a print out from the AA wbsite showing the distance from my house to store and asked for reasonable petrol costs to cover this. After speaking with a manager I was given £15. I live is Sheffield & store in question was Leeds. Not sure if I got a good deal or not but it was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.0

The retailer is obliged to put you back into the position you were in before they caused the damage. If this costs them extra then that is their problem.

It always pays to complain. You wouldn't have been offered anything had you not asked.
