Hi there . Over a period of a few months I purchased a prom dress for my daughter which we collected on 24th june 2009. I paid £330 for it. She tried it on in the shop on the day as it had been made.It all ftted correctly. We took it home. She tried it on again a week later with the full petticoat. It was all fine. On the night of the prom 2cnd July I helped her dress and as i was pulling up the zip on the back of the dress the zipper came off in my hand. The zip then split open. This was obviously an awful situation. All the kids were waiting to leave for the prom, the car had arrived and my daughter was in tears. To cut it short we had to sew and pin her into the dress but the zip was still gaping. This obviously ruined her night. I returned to the shop the next day who basically insinuated I had purposely broken the zip after the prom although I had purchased the dress so she could wear it for my wedding, which the shop knew as i had originally planned to hire it. Much argument contiued with them saying they will return the dress to the factory and replace the zip free of charge. I have left them with the dress but stil feel unhappy about all the stress and inconvenience caused. Can anyone advise me please? Im a newie on here. Thankyou. love and light. Jaksden.

I agree that it should last longer than what it has, I suggest you contact Currys , reminding them of the Sale of Goods Act, (SoGA), and informing them you expect them to repair it FOC.

They will try to fob you off, you will then have to print some of the SoGA info and send it to their head office,(might be as well to take it to the shop in the first instance), informing them if they do not repair you will take the matter to the small claims court.

    SoGA info 1

    SoGA info 2

    SoGA info 3

    SoGA 4 Part II Section14 (2.........). Part 5A, Section 48A,B,C,D,E.

    Thanks for this!

On one of the SoGA pages you've linked to it suggests checking with the trade body for the broken product to find out what they would expect the product life will be, so I've just emailed the Digital Radio Development Bureau and when I have their reply (I'm presuming it'll be a good one!) I'm heading off to Currys on the warpath! :D

After four years use I would expect they would make a charge for any repair.

    Hi, Can anyone help?
I bought a sofa from John Peters in Dec 2006 and paid on finance (buy now pay 1 year later) which was paid off in time.
The sofa was available in leater/leather match for £799 but we specifically requested full leather which cost £1300 (this is clearly stated on the order form and receipt).
We have recently had the soft repaired using the warranty which we bought with the sofa and the repair company has stated the sofa is in fact leather/leather match and not what we paid for.
Upon contacting the company I was told that the company who we bought it from has been liquidated and this new company is just using the name of John Peters so they cant help me.
Is there anything I can do?

Initially contact the liquidators for the original company and see what they have to say.

If the present owners are indeed a new and separate company they have no liability to you unfortunately.

If you paid using a credit card then contact your card company as they are equally liable and should be able to help if the liquidator cant.

I wonder if anyone can help with with my query. At the weekend I went to M&S and had decided to finally use my credit vouchers (paper ones). When I tried to pay the girl behind the till said they had stopped printing them 2 years ago and that I was meant to have used them by Easter. I said that I hadn't seen anything about this and she suggested I contact customer services and explain the situation. I have done and they basically said "tough" saying that these will have been issued as a gesture of goodwill over 3 years ago - however I am pretty sure they are an unreceipted refund for a couple of tops I bought certainly less than 3 years ago. They also said they haven't issued them for 3 years. I have pointed out that I certainly have not had them for 3 years and that despite them saying there were signs at the cash tills I certainly didn't see any and I shop there regulalry (if I'd seen the signs I'd have used them wouldn't I?). Also OH has a few shares and we regularly get vouchers etc and there has not been any literature in the mailouts about this. I have responded to them saying that I haven't had them for 3 years, that I was told they stopped printing them 2 years ago (nothing about stopping issuing them date-wise) and that I certainly did not see any signs but wonder if anyone could give me any advice. They do not have any "use by" date on them.
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
  • Hi New to site but need some help!
I purchased a pram from Mothercare Online on the 22nd June 2008.
The pram has developed several faults all at once really!
i.e. the back falls flat when baby asleep scaring the bejesus out of him!
I contacted Mothercare who asked us to go to the local store!
They are very helpful and offered to send away for repair as it is over 12 months old!
They offered a loan pram but this was far to big as i only drive a Yaris!
    I know off topic...
I couldn't use loan pram so went away to speak to Head Office about a replacement rather than repair.
They have now came back to me sttating that i have to take the pram into my local store and they will send back to the manufacturers to see if it is repairable and if not they will give me my money back!
But i don't want a repair as this is a 14 month old baby in the pram!
Do i have to accept a repair?
And if so can i stipulate a timeframe as i have no pram once it's sent away?

    Your help appreciated!
    Iain
