Write to John Clare MD of DSG group. Send your letter recorded delivery. Tell him how disappointed you are at the lack of response and ask him to deal with your complaint. In the letter state that you feel you are entitled to the difference in price and look forward to receiving a cheque from him.

Yes. Lay out the facts to him and then conclude with the statement that you look forward to receiving a cheque from him for the difference in cost.

Quick story. One of my best mates expelled this to me last night over a beer, and it boiled my blood. i just want to make sure I've got all the facts before I go storming in, all guns blazing.

His other half bought a car just over a month ago for £750 from a car dealer. When they got it home, they noticed the exhaust was almost falling off, but the car had only passed an MOT thre days before! Needless to say, they contacted the local MOT office, who came out and agreed that it should not have passed the MOT in such a condition. The garage took the car back and fixed the exhaust.

The garage sold the car with "30 day" warranty on it.

Day 32 - the car broke down. Taken to a local garage, who said "New gearbox mate - this one is shot.".

Not on, says I! They are about to contact the garage, but I get the feeling that the second word the garage will say is going to be "off!!!". If you get my drift. So arm me with the law, if you would, and let me know the best things to say to the garage - does anyone have any standard leters of dissatisfaction etc?

    Thanks,

    Majik

See what Trading Standards have to say on this one but don't expect much.

Your friend appears either naive or stupid. Did they not think that a car costing £750 may have a few problems? Did they test drive it or get someone knowledgable to check it over for them?

Maybe the dealer will help them as a gesture of goodwill to fit a new gearbox but I think they are going to struggle.

You also have to consider that other major problems could also occur in the not to distant future.

    Bit harsh there bro.

£750 is a lot of money and "a few problems" is not a new gearbox! She test drove it (as far as I'm aware) but she does not have any mechanically minded friends. Assumedly, that's the dealer's job, isn't it? To ensure what they are selling reaches certain standards?

Hence I'd like to be armed with the law to help them out :)

You can say that about anything, but yes - I agree, and will be looking the car over myself once this furore is dealt with.

    Hi Art
Thank you for your 2 replies. We got the printer working again so no need to insist at PC World but at least I will know another time!
The lamp - a full refund is now being processed or so I am told. The sofas....I called into the shop chatted nicely for a while and thought I'd try a bluff so mentioned that if I hadn't received the goods by the time they had said that I believed that that meant that they had broken their contract with me and that I thought I would be within my rights to cancel the order, not that I wanted to but....& etc .Anyway the shop contacted whoever and I got a phone call the next day with a firm delivery date that suits me.
So thank you once again Art - you are a real darling.

Can someone give me some advice, please?

About a month ago I was approached in the high Street by a Salesperson.
This person proceeded to sell me a hairdressing package, telling me lots of stuff about how it worked, that there were 3 salons involved etc. I asked questions, and finally agreed to sign up (£50).

When I rang the salons in question, the information this salesperson had given me was not true. In other word, I was misled.

I wrote to the prootional company by recorded delivery, asking for a refund (this was within 7 days).

Now they are saying that the package was non- refundable, and that there is no "cooling- off" period, as it was sold in the town centre.

    Is this true?

    Thanks in advance

Further to my posting yesterday, I have now received a written reply from the promotional company.

It states that they cannot honour any verbal agreement between myself and the representitive, and the certificates are non- refundable.

It did say this on the certificate, but of course this was small print which was not shown to me prior to the sale.

Is there anythig I can do? I was thinking of going to the local paper or something, to rely it can't be right that the sales reps can lie to people without any comeback?
