Including postage and packaging, £160.00
(Paid for using a credit card over the phone)
In that case write a recorded delivery letter to them and tell them if they haven't replaced or refunded you in 10 days you will go to the Small Claims Court.
Also, if you paid by credit card contact your card company and tell them the problem and tell them you hold them equally liable.

Thanks Art, will try this approach and hope they take me seriously!
Just to clarify - as have only read very briefly around credit card liability - will my credit card company chase the seller too, if I contact them as you advise?

Yes, your credit card company will chase the seller for you. They don't want to end up paying you back for the value of your goods and labour so they will do all they can to get the seller to resolve the problem. As a last resort they will withhold the value of your claim from the seller until things are sorted. When you write to your credit card company include a reference to the Consumer Credit Act and tell them it holds them equally ans severally liable. The more knowledge they think you have of your rights the easier they will be to deal with.

Bought some laminate from Carpetright last October incl fitting (my mistake)
Long long story but initial fitting was shoddy around the door thresholds - store disinterested - laminator to his credit agreed to replace the thresholds with new hardwood ones with a lip - but having got them made wouldn't fit them, Much complaining on my behalf and the store came up with a Good fitter who has almost finished the work - but 3 of the 5 thresholds were split on delivery and they have agrered to replace them - still to be achieved as well as make good damage to 1 doorframe made when the original fitter was lifting them.
The store have been real hard work - phone calls not returned / missed appointments - its been a real struggle to get the job alnmost finished. Must have made over 50 phone calls and stayed in numerous times for late / missing fitters etc
So I asked for compensation - no - so wrote to Lord Harris at HO. Nice holding letter back then a letter from ther Area Manager offering me 10% off my next purchase - Ha!
Have written again to HO - but no response - seems not to be getting to the Top Man. Want to get the job finished first but struggling with a wall of complete apathy.
Advice welcomed0 -

Send a recorded delivery letter to Lord Harris and copy the area manager. Give a detailed description of all the problems you have had. Tell them you expect compensation of £--- for all your out of pocket expenses. This figure only you can estimate but don't be shy - £100-150 doesn't sound unreasonable by what you tell us. Also tell them that if the work isn't finished to your complete satisfaction within 10 days you will go to the Small Claims Court where you should sue for a complete replacement and your expenses.
If you paid by credit card copy your card company in on your correspondence and ask them to get involved on your behalf.

Thanks Art - have written to Lord Harris 4 times (admittedly not recorded delivery) and detailed what compensation I consider approporiate and that has produced zip all response - apart from a letter from the Area Manager offering me 10% of my next purchase!
The letters clearly aren't getting to the top man and are presumably languishing in cstomer 'service'.0 -

looks like a visit to the Small Claims Court is in order if you don't get a reply this time.

Hi everyone,
I am really hoping someone can give me some advise on the below....
My boyfriend wanted to do an IT MCSE course via a company called Advent Training. They sent a representative out to see him and explained the course and payment methods for the course etc etc... My boyfriends mother and I sat with James to ask questions as well to make sure it was a kosher deal. His mother was more concerned about being tied to a financial commitment [of just under 5k] and not wanting to see the course through (you know how parents worry!) so she asked the rep if at any point he wanted to cancel it, could he do so? He said yes he could and he'd just have to pay for materials and exams that Advent would have put him through up to that point. Great we thought!!! So the first disk arrives, he does that and then has to wait for a month for some tutor to post out the next step of training- that arrives- a 4 inch thick manual!! No specific tutor to assist just some functional account! My boyfriend tried to learn the manual and coouldnt take to it. So he wanted to cut his losses- not liking the training methodology being used and called to cancel his subscription.
He was advised he couldnt just cancel, he had sign to pay the full balance of the course! he explained what the rep had advised and we have been told to write formally to them.
HELP!!!- surely this company cannot get away with this sort of thing!! My boyfriend signed an agreement to pay the sum of the course via a loan with Clydesdale bank- lookin at the paper work the loan plus interest is almost double the course amount!
A friend of ours also signed up for the course and was advised the same thing and looking at various forums lots of people seem to be having problems with this company!
Has anyone got any advise for us? I have drafted a letter explaining the situation and advise we had been given. Do I send it and see what happens??
Thanks
