Hi, i'e done a few reviews on dooyoo and i really enjoy it, especially the discussion topics, I have lots of opinions to share lol. Just a question: I didn't think that you actually got the 50p payment for writing in the discussion area, but when i submit my review/opinion, it says that's if it's over 150 words long (which they all have been) I will receive 500 dooyoo miles? Obviously if this is the case then this is a big bonus! Can anyone answer this for me? x

It's an issue that Dooyyoo are aware of - you don't get the miles but their response screen appears to be standard.

Archive and Discussion categories don't pay the posting bonus.

Howdo I report someone for revenge rating?

If you are sure then you can either contact a guide (I'll happily help here - just drop me a PM on dooyoo - same username) or email or PM dooyooteam (that's dooyoo's username on dooyoo).

Just remember - not all low rates are revenge rates... there might be a diversity of opinion.

    Hope this helps

I've looked at the review with the one you think has been revenge rating. Have you contacted the other user? I got a NU a few weeks ago and contacted the rater to ask why, and she had clicked the wrong button.

  • Whats the etiquette with regards to rating people? I uploaded some reviews last night which have been rated, also got a message from a person who rated a few of them saying welcome etc, and now I feel obliged to go and rate their reviews, even if its stuff that I wouldn't normally be reading reviews of... I don't want to just look like I am dishing out ratings just because they have rated mine, surely that defeats the object?

That's exactly how I see it. There's no point in reading and reviewing a book if you don't read books in the first place.

I do sometimes see who rated me, view their profile and see if anything catches my eye or interests me. I might read it and rate it. I don't bother rating at all if I don't find it Useful+, perhaps I should but that's just me.

I don't think there is and etiquette, everyone rates differently.

I usually write a review, then straight after go down the page of new reviews rating each on. Once I reach the bottom I refresh and rate until I get back to mine again.

Then once a week I look through my circle of friends to see if I've missed any out. But I don't deliberately go to someone's account to rate just because they've rated me.

So you just rate because people have posted the reviews, rather than searching for something you want to read a review of because you are interested in it and rating accordingly?

Occasionally if I'm going to buy something I will search for the opinions. But for the most part I rate on whatever people have written about.

IMHO if I only rated on items I had an interest in I would never develop new interests. Since reading other reviews I've added a few books and dvds to my list of ones to read or watch. Some of them are ones that I would never have looked at before.

Same goes for Lush products, I'd never even heard of them before, but now I'm thinking of buying them as presents for people this year.

I really strongly think you should - the whole point of a peer review system is that the reviews get fairly rated, for several reasons:

    1. A range of ratings gives the consumer an ideas which reviews are the most helpful - i.e. which ones are most likely to help him make a buying decision;

    2. To help the writer understand how useful his reviews are perceived by the community - if he has six VUs and nothing else, even if the review is sub-standard, he will just wonder how come no-one reads his reviews. If, on the other hand, there is a range of ratings, he (or she) can start thinking about (and reading around) what may need improving.

    3. If you rate widely, and using all four options (NU, SU, U and VU) as appropriate, people may stop feeling that rating anything below a VU or U is somehow mean or revenge rating, and just understand that different people will find different things useful.

I agree with you fully though about not reading an op just because the writer read one of yours - if you have no interest in the product, there should be no obligation to read.

This is, as always, just my opinion. Your mileage may vary :)
  • I strongly agree with Matty. You should always rate if you read. They have already earned money from the read so you do the site a disservice by not rating it. Particularly if it is a lower rate as this gives the review a more appropriate ranking.

Re: reading only stuff that interests you. I personally would not read something I have no interest in whatsoever. You will not see me reading reviews on perfume or make up. I think it is possible to read in categories that interest you such as books for me and find stuff you would not have thought of but if I will never wear make up I don't see the point in reading reviews of it!

This means someone might read my review and I may never read theirs but that is not what the site is all about. As long as you are reading and rating, however or whatever it may be, that is all that matters.
