It's 50 p for the review when you post it. Then you get more money each time a registered user reads it, and more if it gets crowned. Reviews can easily earn you £3 in the shorter term, and keep on earning pennies until the topic is archived.

I don't suppose anyone knows how many registered users there are on Dooyoo?
If your reviews are anything like mine then the majority of the reads are from non-members, meaning we don't get paid for those review reads.
So, hypothetically, if there were only 300 registered members then obviously you could only have a maximum of 300 paying reads though you had 30,000 non-member reads.

I've had a trawl through the dooyoo site to no avail, so does anyone else know if there is a section that displays how many current dooyoo members there are?
    Just interested.
Better in my pocket than theirs!
  • Actually just a quick update, I have had a lot of emails of support on dooyoo just generally and today I have had them from 4 different people who I didn't even know before, as a result of the things posted on here. So I guess dooyoo, like mse, contains in the main a group of nice, friendly, normal, people who want to get on and support each other and then a few who just like to put people down. You get out of dooyoo whatever you want and if you are jealous that someone else produces more reviews or better reviews or reviews in a different way, that's just tough! Different people enjoy reading different reviews. There are loads of really short ones from newbies on there today and I have generally rated them somewhat useful because they don't contain much info. But if they are short but still give me a good flavour about a product, then they are obviously just more succinct and better writers than those who take 1000 words to get to the same point.
Who's jealous? I never mentioned anything about that nor did I mention the length or quality of reviews. I did make several statements about the attitude of MSE members on dooyoo and what they're posting here. Just because I disagree with the !!!!!ing and whining and complaining that has gone on here alongside the borderline cartel-like behaviour doesn't mean that I am not extremely happy with my own dooyoo membership and what I have gotten from the site.

It's good that you've gotten support, but ultimately unsurprising as the dooyoo community can be quite helpful… until you start taking the mick out of them such as posting 114 reviews in a week and only giving back two thirds of the rates you're given (600 versus 843) or singling out one member for constant complaints.

These posts of mine aren't simply aimed at you, but they're points made in general about a certain group of members that have launched themselves into a long established community of people without thought or respect to that community and are seemingly sucking what they can from it, then they're surprised when people turn out not to like them because of their bullish, selfish behaviour.

Nope, that's top secret dooyoo information, I'm afraid. It wouldn't be a case of number of members anyway, but rather active members that you're looking for.

It's the non-members you should be pandering to anyway. You shouldn't be writing reviews for other dooyoo members, even though they're the people that peer review your work. If you write something that's helpful then these non-members will return to dooyoo and your reviews in future, which is a good thing for everyone. :T

The concerns raised about churners and cartels seems to be justified, but yet the other thread was closed and the attempts were made to sweep the evidence under the carpet, so to speak ("Delete the thread!"). Also, if you're too immature (or lack the self-confidence) to take the criticism that comes with posting written work on the internet on a site where peer review is vitally important, then dooyoo isn't the place for you. Pointing these things out is not trolling, but you might not like what you hear. I'm sorry that you can't see that.

    CampFreddy,

The other thread was closed because of you making people uncomfortable about so- called cartels. People actually have a life and don't sit down plotting and planning about how to make 1.5p from a cartel!!!

You make me laugh because you talk about a so-called community and when another poster asked a valid question about membership you were quite rude to them. Why are you so negative?

The other post was closed and the emphasis on this one is to talk about dooyoo and reviews etc. I am not a fan of people moaning either and am ignoring the moany posts. What is the point in harping on and on about conspiracies. It is a review site for people who enjoy writing. You don't own it and neither does anyone else so please stop acting as if it is your company.

  • Children what is all this noise am I going to have to bang your heads together:mad:

I think what people are not getting about dooyoo is a fair few things.

Firstly, dooyoo is a community. As such it has the same level of little folkways and norms as any community. Dooyoo will not punish you for writing hundreds of reviews in a short space of time but you cannot expect other members to like it. If someone came into your neighbourhood and started putting out hundreds of bin bags in your garden so you cannot see over the fence would you be happy? If you are writing above 150 words and it is your experience (ie you have not simply cut and pasted the opening times of the shop and what they sell) then you are not contraveneing any rules and dooyoo will not punish you for it.

People are concentrating on the 50p you get for posting but the real money is to be gained by putting more effort in and bagging yourself some crowns for £1.50. It is quite possible to grab one or more a week if you start writing well but as with any review site this is not a job and is certainly more of a hobby. Dooyoo is the most lucrative of the review sites but you will not earn your fortune there. If you don't enjoy writing reviews I would not suggest contributing and if you do not enjoy reading them then I would not think it worth your while either.

Finally, the Guides. Try to remember Guides are voluntary helpers in the community. Many of whom have been on the site for years and years. We have seen many members come and go and have waded through thousands of brilliant and absolutely terrible reviews. You may believe we are being short with you but we are merely trying to improve your reviews to make them the best they can possibly be. If you disagree with our opinion it is just that, an opinion. You can choose to take our advice or not that is the joys of peer review. I would say though that if you write a review on a site such as dooyoo or any public forum you ARE leaving yourself open for criticism. From a Guide it should always be constructive but just be thankful the Guides are there and have made the effort to try and help you. On other sites there is nowhere to go for assistance. There has always been an element of "Guide bashing" on dooyoo and this seems to be the case whenever any group has a offical capacity. All I can say is that I try my best and I have seen many Guides doing the same.

  • The main thrust ofthe current upset seems to be over the number of reviews some mebers post in a single day. While I have lready mentiond why the majority often resent it (the new reviews page thing), there are also other considerations as to why its a bad idea. It's already been mentioned that Dooyoo pays a LOT bettr than othr, similar sites. It can take AGES to get to £5 for the same number of high quality reviews on Ciao for example. Seeing as Dooyoo DO pay out a min. of 50 p per review, if people take advantage and the site sees a rush of people posting say 150 reviews a week (numbr pulled out of the proverbial hat), then DooYoo suddenly sees a HUGE increase in their outgoings with little increase in their incomings. Ciao actually had this happen many years ago, as did Epinions, and the result was the absymal pay rates we currently have by comparisons, and the start of the unofficial "churn Level" disregard for writers who dare post more than 2-3 reviews in a single day.

It's sort of like the efect of the Sainsbury's evouchers. Remember when people exploited all the loop holes and used code ater code after code for free groceries and booze and stuff? It led to sainsbury's yanking their codes and the end of the great abrgains everyone else hd been enjoying sensibly. similar actions saw the end of many of the great tesco evoucher codes and teh ability to use more than one. Like them, DooYoo is a business. It's a price comparison site that offers the deals they have found via retail partners who give them commision (incl eBay and Amazon) on the same pages as the consumer reviews that are there to gie the inside info so people can help decide if they want to make that purchase. To encourage us writers, we get these little kickbacks. Posting so many in one day so that payouts are in teh offing before DooYoo has a chance to make the revenue to cover the cost of said payouts is counter productive. Sites have failed (Themestream for example) from simailar actions.

That, truly, is the main reason why it's NOT a good idea to post so many reviews ina short space of time.

Sorry for the typos, but I am tring to swat the cat off my keyboard at the ame time!

There isn't but the site has been going since 2000 and there are 100's of new reviews every day. I would say there are tens of thousands of members (being conservative probably. However, how much you contribute (in terms of real reads) has more to do with how many reads you get rather than the number of members. I contribute a lot (obviously) and top 40 reads on nearly every review, someone who does not will be lucky to get five.

By real reads I mean actually reading the review BTW not rating it quickly without reading it before !!!!!!ing off. Members do notice when there review is read and rated quicker than it is posted!
  • Indeed, 40-50 reads in the first two days of posting a review is quite normal, I find. Allowing people the time to find your single review on teh newest reviews page and reading that single review means you have 40 chances for it to be nominated. Much better odds of adding £1.50 to your balance than posting 20 reviews in one day and averaging 10 reads each, from the same 10 people more or less, ans which will earn you far less money. Taking the time to follow the criticism for improvements, or to do a little bit more research on your topic to find out more about it before writing (such as where something is amde, which can be extremely important to some people) not only makes it more helpful to a few more people, but can raise your review from helpful to very helpful, to fandanglytastic in more people's eyes. It's this that makes people go wow! and hit that Nominate button.

Interestingly, DooYoo did tell us that often people who post a comment to say a review is nominated, never actually do the nominating. It's a throw away comment to make you want to read them, and perhaps nom them in turn. So don't feel slighted if you write a review, get thre remarks that all say NOMINATED! and think it is great, but no crown comes your way.
