• Sorry, I hit the "thanks" button in error.

There are rules against "clicking cartels" on dooyoo - there was a thread eventually locked because someone came on here and basically accused a lot of newbies of doing this even though we weren't so I would advise you against this sort of thing.

That someone was me... and there were MSE members showing cartel-like behaviour, even if you personally weren't involved. And those referral links above still haven't been removed. Is there no moderation of this thread, or does that only happen when people don't like being told to "grow up"?

I would also point out that regular dooyoo-ers do not appreciate newbies "churning" out reviews and you will find if you have just joined and not been rating other people's reviews that they won't be willing to read and rate yours.

The rule of thumb for most people on dooyoo is that if you have more ratings than you give out then you aren't really "playing it by the book".

I write this sincerely as when I joined dooyoo I was a churner and I am ashamed to admit I actually have one review that not one single other dooyoo-er bothered to read. The point of the site is to get people to read and rate your reviews - you can actually make more money that way but of course it requires more time and effort on your part than just churning out review after review.

The anti-churning thing is only a "community" point of view, though. Dooyoo themselves do not disallow "churning" as long as the reviews fall within their T&Cs.

You can look at the money thing from two angles:
1. You can try and make as much money as possible by churning as much as you possibly can... OR
2. You can maximise your earnings per review by taking part in the site, reading other reviews (not necessarily those that rate you), offering comments etc.
If you only have, for example, fifty reviews in you, you will earn more using method 2 as potentially, each review can get £2 (50p posting, £1.50 Crown) plus whatever reads you get at 1.5p per read (active members can get 40+ reads per review). Method 1 will net you only 50p plus a small number of reads (maybe less than 5 per review). In theory, a good review can net over six times the amount a churned review can.

That's in general... IMO, MSE members have an uphill battle because a lot of people that join from this site are seen, rightly or wrongly, to be in it for the money.
• Yeah but if you do not use your MSE name and don't rate all your mates from MSE's reviews instead of everyone elses and stop putting referral links etc on this site then dooyoo members will have no reason to believe anyone is "in it for the money".

If members do not behave in the above way dooyoo would not even know you were a member of MSE!

Moderators are volunteers and I'm not sure that any are actively involved in this thread or have seen the referral links yet; they're busy people! Perhaps the posters that did put their referral links/usernames in this thread earlier on, even if it was with the of best intentions, could kindly remove them? :)

No, you THOUGHT there were MSE members showing cartel-like behaviour. Please do not state your opinion as fact as I can assure you I and many others who were posting on the thread at that time were NOT part of any clicking cartel.

I am sorry if this is opening old wounds but I am annoyed that you are still perpetuating this myth on this board.

Cool, signed up to this and the miles are flying in! I love writing reviews anyway and have been writing them on TripAdvisor just for fun. So may as well get something out of it :)

I agree with CheapCharlie,

I was around at the time as well and was never part of a clicking cartel. I have consistently received 'very useful' for my reviews. I have been with dooyoo since July and have made 40,000 miles so I am hardly in it 'for the money'. I think MSE members are getting a bad rep here. It is only natural that new members don't know the rules and regulations. When this was pointed out to them, they have agreed that it makes sense.

This site is not 'moderated' as such - it operates on a report system. If anybody spots a referral link, abusive post or anything that doesn't seem to fit in with MSE rules, the onus is on the poster to report it via abuse@moneysavingexpert.com

Board Guides do read threads and can remove posts or threads that are not appropriate but we are volunteers and do not have the time to read each and every single post on our boards. I have removed the referral posts made above and also posts listing DooYoo usernames as soon as I spotted them. (I assume that nobody did actually bother to report them to abuse, or they may have been removed sooner.)

Given that there is a financial incentive for rating other people on DooYoo (not to mention the unnecessary arguing about clicking cartels etc) DooYoo usernames should really be limited to the Referrers' Board, alongside referral links. There is an existing DooYoo thread over on the Referrers' Board if anybody is interested in signing up.

Finally - remember that DooYoo is a community and that you gain more respect, more reads, and ulimately more rewards by taking the time to read and rate other people's reviews as well as just writing as many as you can!

It is fact. MSE forum members were swapping Dooyoo user names and making a point of running off to specifically read the reviews in order to give them the read money. That's cartel-like behaviour. I'm not saying (and never did) that everyone that posted on that thread was doing it, or even that it was a majority, but people WERE doing it whether you admit it or not, and in certain quarters it has tarnished the reputation of the forum as a whole. While the carte-like behaviour wasn't actively encouraged, it didn't seem to be frowned upon either, although admittedly that part is my opinion and I do admit that jo the moderator did go through the entire thread and remove Dooyoo usernames because of that.

I agree with this sentiment, and thanks for modding the links, jo. I did click the report link earlier, but as it required me to use my email address rather than fill in a report through the board itself, I never bothered. Perhaps you could pass that on to The Powers That Be as a suggestion?

Dooyoo names are unnecessary on this thread. If anyone has an issue with a Dooyoo member, talk to the guides or directly to Dooyoo themselves.

I'm enjoying Dooyoo - gives me something to do when the insomnia kicks in. I'll be honest, I didn't really think much about reviewing other people's efforts when I first signed up, but I enjoy doing it now. There really are some talented folk on there! I'll never get rich from it, but it's an interesting sideline.
I do have one quandary though - some members write their reviews in txtspk (I cannot stand it!), but their reviews are reasonable enough. Is it fair to say the review isn't helpful when you spend ten minutes deciphering it, although it is useful once translated? I don't want to come across as harsh, but real English makes it a lot easier.
