Nothing, honestly.
But if insurance was generally a better deal for the client, then all the firms would go bust.
Its about probability & risk assesment.
Is it likely to happen & if so, can you deal with it.
With house insurance, you can't take the risk, its too expensive, but with vets bills IF YOU CAN AFFORD VETS BILLS, then its a fair risk.
I hate to see people over insure because insurance companies scaremonger people.
The story about the vet bumping up bills if you have insurance is true.
Sorry to bleat on again Mrs E just I did feel like i said a bit put out by your comments about my post.
I see you have replied to some people but not my comment.
I was merely trying to help and yes if you can afford un expected vet bills then don' bother with insurance but like I say I couldn't of afforded the £1000 bill I would of been landed with.
and the people on this thread were asking for advice on insuring their pets so assume they had already weighed the risks up so was just trying to add some other options in to the thread.
Obviously i seemed to cause some offense to you so i apologise that was not my intention just to help! I agree about vets sometimes bumping up vet bills if you are insured one tried to do that to me! claiming I needed tests doing on one of my dogs incase he had organ failure! I only went in with sickness and a runny bum he was only 5 months old organ failure unlikely!!! so i changed vets to someone who is not in the business for the money and for the love of the animals.
Anyway sorry again for the offensive I caused to you.
I still stand by what I see my £15 a month goes unnoticed each month however a large vet bill would not!

I'm sorry I made you feel that way, I was just debating the pros & cons

I too said that, I totally agree & that is the point I was making.

Not all, some are weighing up the pros & cons (as I did & still am).

Not at all.

Yes, its things like that (as happened to me) that have made me a bit sus, its because of vets like that, that premiums have soared:mad:

My cat is an indoor cat but has a pre-existing medical condition. I know I can't get that covered but are there any covers that don't penalise you for it, and just miss it out?? It's really just in case she gets out from the house and is injured in any way or goes missing....0

hello all!
still debating m&s vs. axa and confused by this on the axa quote.....
"All reasonable costs for Treatment of Your Pet by a Vet up to £7,000 per period of insurance."
that doens't say per condition but just per period of insurance... am i wrong or is this the total amount they'd pay out per year even if your pet had 9 different conditons!!??
m&s is cheaper than axa and right now looking even better!0 -

it seems my above statement is right but that's normal and id kinda got the wrong end of the stick i think... both axa and m&s seem to be about the same in terms of cover but axa is more expensive BUT am i right in thinking because axa is less likely to hike the prices right up, im better off going with them coz if my dog got a condition and i was with m&s and then they pushed the prices up.. id kinda be stuck with them coz then moving to axa wouldnt cover the condition... so im better off going with an insurer that im more likely to stay with longer for that very reason.....

Blimey, you are getting your knickers in a twist - youre as bad as me.
Lets put it this way, none of us know what will happen in the future to these policies. What we do know (to my cost) is that we jumped on the wonderful M and S policy a few years ago because it covered so much more and had no excess - two years down the road, they change underwriters and all of us who have claimed or even visited a vet for a consultation are snookered as another insurer will exclude those conditions or any related ones.
So, you can never tell what may happen. Petplan has long been the market leader but who knows if they may change if they get new underwriters? NFU is the longest standing insurer of animals - have you tried them? You cant do it online with them, you have to ring your local office as they tailor it to your circumstances/pet. They do per condition per year and they tell me they never increase the excess.0 -

M&S is still a very good price though!
Petplan are great but much too expensive for me. Haven't tried NFU and not sure I like the idea that they don't do online quotes, I don mind a detailed questionaire.....0 -
Then you pays your money and makes your choice. I hope you dont leave it too long0

Hi Can i add another insurer? The RSPCA use AXA, does anyone have anything to say about it?
I have an M&S policy and am thinking of changing as the cost has risen and everyone seems to give better costs, but only RSPCA have come close on the policy. Any feedback would be very welcome. ThanksLeopardlady
