Just to put another spin on vets & insurance.
Ted (RIP) had a fight one night & I took him to the vets in the morning for his eye.
Almost as soon I walked in, she said "did I hear you say you have insurance?"
"no" says I, "does this mean this is going to be very expensive?"
"If you had insurance I would have got him an eye specialist".
Me, "does he need that?"
Her "we will try him with anti-biotics & pain killers first".
Less than a week later, all was well.
If you have insurance they will bump the bills up. If you don't, they probably won't.0 -
Having spent the last six days at home with Jim - we are back to work tomorrow - I looked at his lovely little face and gone for Pet Plan For Life cover. Works out at £33.74 per month....
I may be mad and I may not be.............
Previous poodle never needed a penny spent, except when he lost some of his equipment. Old English had big op towards end of her life, which I paid for. Both lived to be 16 years of age....
But you never know........ I was lucky before.......Genie

Just for an idea of what can happen we paid £165 on bank holiday monday, £23 tonight for a follow up which was just a drop of dye in the eye and a 2 second look (which I had to do myself even though he was muzzled - he was growling a little:o) and then we have to go back monday day time as she said she needs to check and if his corneal ulcer has not healed by then, then she needs to sedate him for more tests etc. I would think that would be another £100 odd plus whatever the treatment is after that one.
I have insured both mine today with tesco but always had insurance before and cancelled during the credit crunch trying to keep the roof over our heads. I really wish now as I had kept it going though as now his eyes will not be covered at all and its an expensive thing the eyes. God knows how we are going to pay all this now. I just get the card out and think of it later. All this from trying to save money over the hols too by taking long country walks.
After reading up on these corneal things the next step could be to sew up his eye while it heals and that I know will drive him crazy. Just hope he gets better now before then.0 -

May be I live in a semi rural area? Is Jim castrated? Oh, I dont think they asked that actually. They usually ask if castrated and chipped dont they. It includes 10% on line discount - but I guess you got that too. I think you get £25 cash back if you go through quidco?
Did you ring the NFU? I cant remember their quote. It wasnt far off petplan at the time though.
Heres the email they just sent. Damn, I gave my real name and address - bet theyll be on the phone later this week
