Ricicles That means per year of the policy.

watchcote - HSBC is underwritten by AXA. No problems that I know of.

    Thanks

For anyone else strugging, just found this site (defaqto.com) that was a huge help. Im sure many of you allready use/know this, but it was all new to me. Pick the policies from a dropdown and it compares two of your choice.

I just went through and pulled a list of all the "time Unlimited" and "per year" policies and am about to embark on a mission to find the cheapest!

Don't despair. Don't get your hopes up, but it's possible that there's a way out.

Our lab had a hip replacement (same reason - hip dysplasia, diagnosed at ~7m). The normal vet xrayed her, diagnosed it and gave us coping strategies. We asked for a referral to a specialist, who said she might as well have the operation now as she'd be needing it in the next 4 or so years.

The justification was (a) she was going to get arthitis and (b) she wasn't getting quality of life. However, she was able to walk for 30-40 mins a day. She'd be stiff, but she could consistently do that. We were lucky in that our insurance was lifetime, but that didn't feed into the specialist's decision.

I assume you're on the £4k plan. A hip will cost ~£5k. They don't do both hips at the same time - that enables your dog to walk pretty much immediately after the op. That may still leave you the other £5k hip to do at a later date (depends, often one hip is much worse than the other), but that beats having to do both.

Anyway, best of luck. If you need any more info (exact costs etc.), just pm me.

    5K!!!!!

    5K!!!!!

    per hip!!!!

goodness we were quoted 'around 2k... ish'.

I'm not doubting you... I suspect that you are absolutely bang on the nose and we were being soft soaped a little. Though we were told that 'one hip was worse than the other' and that she was a good 'candidate' for the op where they just sort of shave or chop a bit of the ball bit off. Sounds vague but I understood it when they showed it on the x ray.

Anyway, we have decided that we will see how we get on and in a couple of months we will take her to have her bloods checked (kidneys due to the medication etc) and have another chat with the vet and perhaps confess our c0ck up.

    ok my c0ck up. :p

The guy I spoke to at Direct Line wasn't particularly rude but appeared 'ready' for me iykwim. I think they must have people like me and Joojars ringing up frequently.

I am going to see what can be done within the 12 months and claim for that lot and then try and move my cover. I know any new company is not going to insure an existing condition but I would sooner give my money to someone else.

In the meantime note the sig

    We live and learn.

Thanks to all for being so helpful all the time to people like me and BIG thanks to those who replied to me... Hethmar, Suki, Bromley etc.

My cat's insurance with Direct Line has gone from £19 to £25 to £32 and now £42 a month! On paper it's a good policy, he is 15 and has arthritis which is the only thing I seem to claim for as he takes tablets for it and the excess is £70. I can claim for unlimited time for a condition.
I got a quote for £32 a month with Sainsbury's just now but the excess is £125 and it won't cover existing conditions.
I don't know what to do. I can't afford to pay £42 a month. Can anyone recommend a different company?
    Thanks.

I've been with Sainsburys for last 8 years with my rescued German Shepherd. I'm sick of the premiums going up drastically each year as he gets older. We started off at about £15 a month. Two years ago it was £22 a month, last year £32 a month, then I just got my renewal through and it's £46 a month

My dog's had a bit of colitis on and off for last few years (although nothing in last two years as he seems to have settled down) then last year had two teeth and a small lump removed from his mouth which wasn't cancerous. He also had a blood test at same time which revealed his kidney function has started declining, as would be expected in a dog of 9/10 years of age. I daren't swap insurers due to his age and the risk of all previous conditions being excluded.

I am insured with More Than, my 10 year old Staffie swallowed his beloved kong last week and we were left with a bill for almost 800.00 still ongoing. More than won't pay up as the injury was self inflicted. This has really annoyed me as others have said they have no problems claiming. I'm happy to pay becasue I love my dog to bits, but surely they should cough up.
Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.

Good grief! that's unbelievable, surely that's considered an accident.....it's not as though the dog swallowed it to make himself ill!

Ricicles, I think most of us have tried that site, but its a bit dodgey, it brings up about half a dozen different policies for some companies, which dont even exist. Ultimately its a case of looking at each policy wording on the company website And of course you dont need me to tell you cheapest aint always the best. You need to look at the history and reliability of the firm and who underwrites them. For example, avoid E and L and any associated insurers like the plague.

    Hi all

Can anyone confirm that More Than is for life? I saw a post from someone a few pages back that said it wasn't?

I have been with them for 1 year now and was paying £11.89, I've just had their renewal through and they want to bump it up to £19.99 per month!

Has anyone had any success with haggling with them? I tried last week and they didn't seem willing to budge.

    Any advice would be great!

    Many thanks

More than isn't for life...it's just up to a certain amount per illness, (condition) so if you reach their limit for a certain illness after say 3 years..then you'll get no more.
I changed over to AXA for just this reason. Luckily my dog was only 8 months old and had never needed to go to the vet yet.
