RGB is only one of the signals that can be carried over a SCART. They can also carry Composite video (very common) and S-video (not so common) - depends entirely on the equipment at both ends. It looks to me that the SCART in (video 1 only) can only accept s-video or composite, even if you feed it an RGB signal (must assume my Sagem provides RGB and composite at the same time?)
The way you can tell is by looking at saturated colours on non-saturated backgrounds - most notibly bright red on something dark. If you're feeding the box with a freeview box or Sky, press red icons are perfect, or the EPG even better if it uses those colours. If the edges of the red symbol (circle or whatever) look like they are kind of rippling, then it's not RGB. (however make sure the 1600 is set to OUTPUT RGB!!)0 -
Went to Asda Eastlands Manchester for one of these at 3.30 pm price was £84.950

Tin,
What would be the best way to connect my new 1600?
On the back of my telly I have s video in, coax audio in, aswell as numerous scarts, having svideo or RGB i think.
I'm connecting my sky digibox too - so what's the best setup?
Thanks.0 -

i would say connect the Rgb scart to the sky box "vcr" connection and from the sky box "tv" connection to the back of your tv. That way you could record sky channels at the ideal quality and be able to play back dvd movies simply by switching off the skybox. Best to get an all in one remote to make use of the devices.0 -
I bought one of these and have now set it up. Only problem is I can't watch watch the tv whilst a different programme is being recorded. My tv doesn't give the option of selecting the input source but the VCR that was connected had the option of turning the scart output off. Does anyone know if the Cyberhome has this facilty?0

sounds to me if you are prepared to wait until after Christmas that DVD recorders without hard disk will start from around £49.99 and one with a hard disk £149.99 ...and i suspect the small LCD flat screen for £99.99....Me? i'm waiting! The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0

In the past I have waited for the "Jan sales"
they never happened.
Some prices actually went up.
Only the junk no one wanted was reduced.0 -

Hmm. I think what I would try is:-
- 1600 to the TV via the S-video sockets on each
- Sky (TV SCART) into the TV RGB SCART (unless it's very new/high spec, most TVs will only take RGB on one socket)
- Sky (VCR SCART) into EXT2 AUX SCART on the 1600
That way you can watch Sky directly or the 1600 by switching between AUXes on the TV. Make sure Sky/1600/TV etc are set to RGB where appropriate or you won't get the benefit!
If you are lucky and have more than one RGB SCART spare on the TV, connect the 1600 EXT1 TO TV SCART to another RGB SCART on the TV instead of the S-video connection. :beer:0 -

Technology seems to be the exception to this rule - the prices just go down forever anyway, the retailers just seem to hold out on cutting the prices until after xmas, so everyone who's buying prezzies has no choice but to pay a little bit of a premium :rolleyes:0
