    Morning all,

Long time, no post from the Thriftmonster household - but I need to get back on the OS wagon so am back for inspiration.

It's pouring here in Belfast - grrrr - I was planning a bramble picking trip to Stormont (you can walk in the park as long as you don't get too close to the Assembly building and there is good woodland there). We have a French teenager staying with us for 3 weeks (the cousin of a friend) - he's 14 so is quite happy to play on the computer or the Wii - but we can't do that for 3 weeks.

I also have to pipe the decorations onto two cakes I have done for a Diamond wedding anniversary at the weekend. I am dreading it as I'm not at all artistic - but I shall hide the sides with ribbon and have bought two sugar sprays of flowers for the tops of them. The people requested traditional royal icing and marzipan - they're (sort of ) flat iced at the moment

Leftover mash and cabbage to make Bubble and Squeak for lunch with bacon - beef and ale pie for tea (reduced shin in Tesco). Luckily French student is very happy with "le Kelloggs" for brekkie - haven't the heart to tell him they're Sainsburys Basics cornflakes.:D

Happy Birthday to Annie and Jayward

Hugs to all who need them.

    Have a good day.

Well done, Nelski - you really know how to hit the right spot (G-spot, lol!). Yes, I'll 'fess up to keeping yesterday's bloke all to myself! He's very good at favours!

Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement; I really am trying to keep things calm because there are far worse things going on in the world that are real worries and a lot of people would be glad if a forthcoming wedding was the only thing they had to worry about. So, I am feeling as though things will just take their course and I'm not going to moan again (says she!).

Sybil - I may have missed something in one of your posts. Is your little one unwell? (((Hugs))) to you if life is difficult. If taking him out is stressful - it was with my youngest (the one my future DIL still wants to marry on Friday!). I used to make a list of things to look out for if we walked up to the shops and he used to tick them off. You could list things like how many red cars, how many buses, how many dogs and then how many were on leads, how many bikes and so on. I would also list things to collect like leaves and elastic bands (dropped by the postie). He also used to love to hold the shopping list and I used to get him to draw pictures of what we needed. It's a bit time-consuming but it worked with mine. You could do a list the night before you intend taking him out.

Sistercas - I recommend doing a 'Tru' too! She has achieved remarkable results by 'going off on one' as my youngest would say.

N9EAV - so sorry the weather has been so bad in your lovely neck of the woods. It's such a shame for residents and holidaymakers alike. Cornwall is so beautiful at any time but the sun really does enhance it, doesn't it? This is a truly dreadful summer. My BIL has just come to stay from the south of France; he's as brown as a berry and they've had 45 days of constant sunshine with temperatures in the 30s. (Sorry, I didn't mean to depress you!)

Well, I shouldn't be sat here but it does help to 'ground' me as they say.

    I'll pop back later.

thanks donny-gal,,,, but the road I took was to BDGH as it is nearer and it is a straight road,,DH had all the monitors on him and they took enough blood to fill a sink,,

As we were in the A&E ,,there was a chap in who had just crashed on that road and the policeman with him was saying that four accidents had occurred that day on that road at just about the same spot and when I thought about it that was where I overtook this slow van ,,,

but we are all okay now and DH has gone to see his own doctor st the moment

Morning all! A bit overcast here, so I'm still debating about doing the wash - don't want to drag in a bunch of wet laundry later to hang inside. I'll give it an hour or so and see what happens with the weather before I decide.

I have to do a grocery shop this afternoon. Not keen to go, but no choice really. Almost out of milk. DH & I went through a bunch of paperwork yesterday, sorting it into "toss", "shred", and "file" stacks. Now I get to shred a bunch of paperwork. The shredder scares DS2 (2yrs) - I think due to the noise - so maybe do some tonight after he goes to sleep. Ah, but it's the filing I really detest! Once I get this batch filed, I can go back to filing it as it comes in, but it's piled up right now from the last 2 months.

This overcast weather makes me want to nap. *yawn* Hope I can get things in gear soon!

Happy Birthday to AnnieBL and Jayward!

Hope everyone else is getting more done than me today. I feel like I'm in slow motion!

KAAT_LADY hows did it go with your best pan ???

rchdapp1 I used a stain remover called De-Solv-it universal from Mr M`s and it works a treat on almost anything, but whether it will work on something that has been washed already I dont know, worth a try though,
    It`s not mega bucks either.
floss2 O well done you, very OS and what a good saving :T

mioliere your BIL sounds like hard work, socks and feet  in public  just
remember what I said yesterday, if all else fails resort to plan B....namely the GIN bottle.....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

sistercas I know exactly what you mean, my DS1 and 2 were the same when they were at home, it was a long time ago though. My own fault I just did everything, until I was ill and they had to help, so after that I made sure they helped, and I also taught them to cook and sew, just the basics enough to get by when they lived on their own. My friends thought I was mad but DS1`s girlfriend has since said to me" you did me the biggest favour ever when you taught him to do everything" It helped so much when she was in hospital having our first DGD. So you go for it and get them sorted ;)

AnnieB O how thoughtful your DD is and what a lovely thing to do,it will last for ages:D

Nelski ooo I will never get any work done now ((sigh)) ogle.ogle.ogle.
hmmm now what do I need  everything.........:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not raining here yet but looks as though it might,WM just finished so I will go put it out under the back cover, and let it blow at least. Some sewing to do for mum today, all her skirts seem too long now, she is shrinking due to osteoporosis and old age too of course, but she is cheerful enough, seems to have a new lease of life since she moved into sheltered accommodation,so many people to talk to and something going on most of the time.
Looking at the length of this post it`s almost a "mioliere" one :rotfl: only joking Kathy, I love to read your posts.
Well time for a :coffee: back later

Mioliere - sorry to have confused you, you should be concentrating on those favours! My little one is 18 months old and gorgeous (well, I'm biased, but a mother should be) and at the moment he has acute nappy rash and (I think) is teething again! Last week he had heat rash. He is lovely when we go out, and I am fine when my husband takes us out. Little bear is so well behaved, and it is nothing I have done, he just seems to be managing himself. :o The problem is that I get very silly, partly because of the depression. I know that I will be fine once I can get over this silliness - and it is silly. In fact, it is starting to irritate me how silly it is, which is a very positive step for me taking him on the bus to wonderful places.

However, Moliere, I shall certainly be remembering your ideas - they sound a wonderful way of making a trip out fun. I love playing with him, he can be so much fun and has a great giggle.

I won't be taking him out anywhere today, the weather is foul and I am probably going to be rushing around after my poorly husband this afternoon. I think that is all the more reason to take him somewhere though. I was younger than him when I was first taken to a museum, and just seeing something different has to be good?

Pippa - I agree with you so much about teaching little ones how to do things, though I suspect my little one will be sorting me out. :o My husband can cook because I taught him, but he cannot iron at all. I think you could give him a choice of ironing or the gallows and he would just march to the gallows. When you watch someone trying to iron a double duvet with the point of an iron, you have to question how important ironing is. My husband is an absolute darling and a whizz at all sorts of computer things, but needs illustrated instructions to turn on the washing machine. One person cannot do everything. Something has to give and quite often it is mum.

I do seem to rattle on with long posts. :o After a short call from my uncle of 45 minutes, I think it must be genetic.

Was it biological powder? I found, when all else fails, biotex will get the pans clean. Vanish is also very effective but NOT ON ALUMINIUM PANS as I lost a pan through that :o Hope it works out soon.

I have decided I am going to try and get to the end of 50p per person per day til Christmas thread and then start on the declutter thread. I am sure that will keep me out of mischief for a while.
