  • Thanks to those who offered me advice on sewing on my limbs. I sat down in front of the telly last night with all my monkey bits, a pin cushion full of pins, and some steel determination, and I'm pleased to say it worked! One of my monkeys is now complete, another just needs ears, and I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about compleating the other two -hurrah!

Now I just have to think about clothes for the poor wee things!

don't think we'll ever get them as good as all yours but we'll try and have fun doing it. so again thank you ladies for the inspiration and i now bough out again and hide behind the scenes.:j

I don't think you can say that any monkey is better than another, they all have their own quirky unique characters. That's what makes them special IMO. Personally, I tend to prefer the "wonky" ones, people are all unique, why not the monkeys.

Also, just like to point out that there are a few male monkey-makers here as well ;)
I love these but just have NO sewing skills whatsoever :(
I have limited use of my left hand, which doesnt help. Are these fairly easy to make ? I have bought socks but now i am thinking twice about if i would even be able to manage to make one.

I'm definitely no sewer and have slightly limited dexterity in my hands but have managed to make a few of these little chaps and girlies up by hand now. It takes me forever (probably at least 5 hours each monkey) but it's certainly doable with some patience. I have found this pattern much easier to sew because the arms and tail are fatter. Also check out these videos which explain quite clearly how to do some simple stitches - I use the 'back-stitch'.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks so much JB

I will have a look at the video and pattern and i shall try to give it a go :)
I suppose i could always transform it to a doorstop if it doesnt work ;)

    Hi everyone

Regarding Sock Monkey accessories, I'm rackign my brains trying to think of a cheap way to make a sort of money belt / bum bag to go on sock monkies. it needs to be as cheap as poss (whilst still being decent of course :) ) as it's to raise money for charity.

Sigh, it started with me offering to make some for a group who would be meeting in May. I mentioned it to the organised who embraced the idea a bit too well (:rotfl: ) and expanded the simple sock monkey to one with some medical equipement attached, that happens to look like a money belt. I've not idea where I'm going to find the time to make the accessories too

Does anyone have any ideas please?

    Thanks

    Hi All

Just thought you would like to see the sock monkey I made for my nephew's birthday. He really liked it and despite his cool 11 year old friends being there when I gave it to him they loved it too. I knitted (1st attempt) the scarf and hat and made the bobble to go onto the hat. I adapted a show pattern to make footy boots and added the newcastle pin badge. I also glued the football to a piece of velcro so the ball can be taken off.

I had so much fun making him, need to finish the girlie ones now.

oops he is a bit big sorry.

Thank you for the compliment, it actually went a bit wrong thats why i made the pompom, I casted on the amount of stitches i needed and then after the 1st block of colour i casted off 1 at each end of the block of colour, it came out looking like a pyramid shape, i sewed it up but it looked funny so i put a pom pom on the end and folded it over.

    hope that makes sense.
