You can do it by hand. I have made loads fo them now and havent bothered gfetting my sewing machine out at all. Use a back stich so that if it comes undone it wont just all come apart and over sew the edges too for added safety. You can make the seam much stronger by sewing by hand (in my opinion)0 -
Hey Girls - people are underselling their monkeys on ebay and charging ridiculously low prices that don't even cover the cost of making and electricity used for sewing machines. No one stands a chance of selling any on ebay now and making even a little extra to cover their costs when people are doing this. Such a shame I think as it makes would be buyers think that no time or costs are involved when they can buy for a couple of pound when we all know that alot of time and effort goes into making them nicely. The Sock Monkey's image is being cheapened!!!
I dunno - what do you all think??0 -
Can't remember who it was that wanted camo socks but Woolworths have a pack of 5 boys socks that contain some camo ones for about £5 for 5. There is a 20% disc voucher in the voucher section.0

Has anyone had the 'Coffee Table' leaflet through the post from Necafe??? The person who writes it obviously gets all their ideas from this forum. They have included all of the hamper types that people are doing on here as well as instructions to make a sock monkey - not sure if the instructions are copyrighted, think it's the ones that are!!!! Easy leaflet to write, just come onto MSE and put it on paper!!!!
Yes!!! I had this through and thought that they must have been on here!!!!!
They'll be making snowman soup up with nescafe in the next one0 -
I had the nescafe leaflet as well - perhaps they'll be doing bean covered socks as a limited edition so we can have coffee monkeys for hampers later on in the yearOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

Argh, I'm having a nightmare with my sock monkeys. I'm making one each for my family (4) to give to them in two weeks time (we're having an early Christmas as I have to travel 450 miles). I have all the limbs and bodies sewn and stuff but I just can't make the arms/tails sew on properly. They keep bunching up, and my stitches are all over the place. Help!
(I can't follow written directions, so if anyone can find very clear pictures showing how to sew these on, that would be a great help)
Thanks in advance!
xxxIn a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!0 -
Maggie Bob - I position my arms and tail(or rather the sock monkeys!!!!) and then I put a few pins in to hold into position. I make sure that the seam part of the arm/tail is pointing to the floor and then I start stitiching from the underneather in an anti clockwise direction. I take a little bit of the fabric from the body bit and the arm/tail and stitch pulling it tightly as I go. I always fold in the frayed ends also as I am going. Once I have got back to my starting point. I then stitch around again to make sure it is attached nice and strongly.
Hope this helps you
