theres some for sale on ebay varying in price from 99p to £19.99 i would pay £5 for them. especially if you are adding the ribbon round the neck etc.
i am making 3 for my friend who has recently split from her parnter and money is tight for xmas, i have said i will charge her for the socks (£1 each for 2 and £2.99 for the other) and then postage. i know i'm not making from it but she's a friend.
can anyone get hold of camoflauge print socks cheaper than £2.99???? if so could you PM either where from or how much it would cost to get a pair and send to me. thanks.due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

Hey all,
I’ve been following this thread with interest for a few weeks now. Like many others, I just couldn’t resist after seeing all of your brilliant monkeys. Now, keep in mind I have never so much as used a needle and thread before (let alone a sewing machine) this was a sharp learning curve.
I managed to borrow my nan’s (aptly named) ‘PFAFF’ sewing machine (circa 1950) and bought my first pack of socks from ASDA. After hunting around for a while for stuffing I decided to go with the cheap option (IKEA pillow filling). I bought four ‘IRMA’ (light blue) pillows for about 52p each. The stuffing seems to have worked pretty well and I’m sure one pillow would easily be enough to stuff about 3-4 monkeys. I also used the ‘new style’ pattern to make the monkey because the thin arms looked too fiddly for me.
Anyway, here’s Marvin, he’s going to be a Christmas gift for our nephew.
You can’t really tell from the photo but the mouth is cream and the hat/scarf in green. The scarf is a bit tatty – how have others done theirs? I made a fairly basic hat from the stretchy top part of the sock. He just needs some eyes. Stardrops, I love the eyes on your ‘moncow’ – have you used circles of white felt behind black buttons or do the buttons have white around the outside? And if they’re buttons, can you remember where you got them?
Anyway, thanks so much to all of you for posting your wonderful pictures and for giving me the inspiration. I’ll definitely be making more! If a guy with absolutely no sewing abilities can make one, I’m sure anyone can with some patience and perseverance.

Here's my latest 2....... Have just had an order for some for a friend too - how much is everyone charging???? I've got loads of stuffing and buttons, tons of cotton and the socks will cost me £1....I can make one up in around an hour and half.....do you think £4.50 is too much???
Personally I wouldn't sell for so cheap. There is alot of time and effort goes into these monkeys and I think people should recognise that and pay accordingly. I'd try and get more if I were you - I have sold one wrapped in cello with some bling for £8.50 to someone we know and have an order for another one at the same price.0 -

Stardrops42 that is lush I really like that my 1st took me a long time and it still has no arms lol. I am in the process of knitting the scarf for my next attempt although the monkey is not even in production yet lol.
Good price for them too, you have to take into account cost of material used and time you took. With the stuffing you divide the price of the bag by how many monkeys it made.
So for example you would charge £1 for the socks, the 20p or so for the buttons again you divide the button price by how many monkeys eyes the buttons make. Any ways you do this for cost of all the materials and add to time taken fee,
If this dnt make sense then I will make it easier. Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.0 -

Hi Shelley3774
I was originally(sp?) just using normal cotton and doing a sort of back stitch but I wasn't very happy with it. So got some embroidery thread and use a double thread, do a couple stitches on one corner of the mouth then simply pull the thread over to the other side of the mouth and secure with another couple of back stitches. I do make sure that the thread is quite taught so it doesn't go baggy. Did you follow that?:rotfl: I'm useless at explaining things!Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)
