For my first sock monkey I used a pair of adults ankle socks. Last night I finished making my son a sock monkey using a pair of childrens ankle socks, but the arms were mor fiddly as they were very slim - although that could also be due to my cutting and stitching!

I prefer to use fluffy socks for my monkeys, although they do 'shed' when you are making them. I just use socks from Primark or £ shops.

Florencee; You can use any sock, although the bigger it is the more stuffing they use. If you have a nosy on my h'page you will see I have used all sorts of sizes for my monkeys. Have seen your lovely rag dolls on the sewing page so I doubt you would have any probs making monkeys!
Sorry can't help regards Doncaster. But best to get cheapy socks first to practise...maybe Prim*rk?

I had a look at your sock monkeys.....they are great. So colourful - love the hats and scarves - did you make up your own pattern for these?

Florenceem; As the monkeys usually have different sized heads depending on the stuffing and size of sock.So its either adding more stitches or leaving some off to fit!

Here is another Barry the Biker. He has a black beanie (which you cant see to well on the photo) and a painted flame on the back of his jacket to match the small one on the front.

Have made a few monkeys this week to put into the craft shop.
