  • That's it, I am going to get some super cheap socks tomorrow and get sewing! Had a horrible/emotional few weeks and need something constructive to take my mind off things! These are so cute and hopefully no-one will complain at xmas that I spend too much! My family are very much 'thought that counts' so these could be a real hit if I personalise them for everyone so:

Dad - will have weights (gym lover)
Mum - will have a little dog on a lead
brother - will have an instrument (cornet)
uncle - will have a yellow toy car

etc. Hope I can get these done as it sounds good in my head! Just need the socks now. Dont know what to stuff them with though might look on ebay for cheap stuffing! I am sure I have seen eyes somewhere, cant remember now, might have been the works?

Wilkinsons sell googly eyes, or you can use buttons.
For filling, go to a £ shop and buy cushions or pillows. As long as they have the safety standard markings, you can use them.

Good luck and do show us the pics when they're done.

They sound absolutely brilliant. I'm sure there will be some twiddling but I bet they turn out OK. Looking forward to seeing the results.
  • I am so excited!

Just finishing off knitting a scarf this weekend and then going to pop to poundland and the works on monday to get pillows, googly eyes, sewing kit, lots of cheapy socks (dont know if primark better for these) etc. May get some felt from the works to make the accessories for the monkeys. Already have a ton of wool so might make them little hats and scarves if I have time. :)

If your planning on giving your monkey to a child, I personally would avoid the stick on eyes, and either sew on buttons, or get some safety eyes that have the washers on the back.

  • Well I have been busy this past week and have now completed my family of three monkeys. One for DS, one for DD and one for DH. The two kids ones will be in their stockings hanging out the top and my favourite one in the leopard print will be holding a bottle of brandy and wrapped in cellophane. I think my DH will love this. It is also my best onkey to date I think. I'm finally getting the hang of them:D His has sewn on arms whereas the kids ones have moveable arms. I think I prefer the sewn on arms though as the safety joints are very hard to get on and I find it stretches the stufing hole a bit.

These are all made from fleece socks from peacocks. The pink and blue being girls socks and the leopard print are ladies socks that came in a pack of two with a black pair. I don;t think the black pair will work as a sock monkey as the weave is quite loose and I reckon the stuffing will show through, but we'll see.

I want to make one for my MIL holding a bottle of whiskey. But then seeing the cow sock monkey (haha) that might be a better option...an old cow that drinks too much :rotfl::rotfl:then again she might not speak to me again if I did that :rotfl:One for my Mum holding bubble bath and one for my Dad holding a bottle of beer maybe, he's not much of a drinker, so I'l have a think on that one.

    Here's the trio
