  • I just made a monkey for a friend who is moving back to China :(
He has worked out pretty cute and my mum crocheted him a hat and put a bobble on it, it looks ace. I am trying to work out what else I can add to really finish him off, I was thinking of putting a tag on him, like a luggage tag, a bit like Paddington. Any advice on wording? :)

  • Wicked new sock monkey's!

Can I ask advice on doing mouths? What do you guys use for them and how to you sew them on? I was thinking of using wool and just sort of stitching it on at intervals to it keeps it shape. But I thought I'd ask some experienced people first :)

For mouths, I just use a back stitch in embroidery thread, although there might be a better way of achieving a better effect.

    Hi

I have used wool and done a back stitch across but now I do chain stitch with thick red thread which I think works quite well.

    Just finished more

Lots of ways of doing mouths. I use embroidery thread, start at left end of mouth, knot. go to left nostril, knot, right nostril, knot, right end of mouth, knot, then back to left end of mouth. I then hand finish with matching thread to catch in all the ends.
I like my monkeys to smile instead of a straight mouth, but it's all a matter of taste really.

  • Thank you for the suggestions on the mouth :) I think I'm gonna try a couple of methods out in a piece of spare sock ( :rotfl: never said that before) and see what I find easier/prefer.

Well, I have almost finished my monkey... she just needs her mouth sewing on when I can get some embroidery thread.

Really pleased with how she turned out, especially given that it's the first one I have ever done and I expected it to be awful!
