Just cut the hair in strands and sew in to make the parting.. i usually go over the the centre then with clear drying fabric glue.
then style into braids etc. to make the frizz just use a darning needle to split the wool ply
gosh !! does that make sense hun0 -

So do you sew the wool to something or straight on to the head?
Want to try and do an afro for Dennis the Menace, so no parting, just wildJack of all trades ... Master of none

Yes you can sew the wool to the head OR thread the wool thru the actual sock on the head using a darning needle. If your doing the afro I would thread the wool thru the sock but not in any straight line and tie in a knot. then split the wool before.0

Long time lurker, so thought I'd actually post tonight.
I have started my first sock monkey tonight - I bought a sewing machine a few weeks ago at a boot sale and thought it would be ideal for starting out on sock monkeys. Have made the body/legs bit and really pleased with how it looks and at how easy it is once you get going.
Really pleased, as have been buying socks like they are going out of fashion over the last two days! I think I was followed by the store detective at one point, in one shop, because I was fondling all the socks. Must have looked very odd.
Will post pics when I have completed my first.0 -

Will give that a go when I remember to buy black woolJack of all trades ... Master of none

when i make hair for mine, i wind it round my elbow & hand, like making a wool shank? take it off, lay flat, snip each end, and lay a strip of masking tape up the middle, flip it and do the same the other side
that way it sails through your machine, stitch 3 or 4 times
and you are left with a "monkey wig"
the tape just rips off, leaving all your wool stitched together
sew onto the monkeys head, along the "wigs" stitchline
then you can cut/style and secure however you want0 -

Just a thought but has anyone tried using wool for the mouth and nostrils?
Want to buy some for hair, and thinking it would be cheaper to use than embroidery thread?Jack of all trades ... Master of none
